Another question about where to live in London

Sorry, I just found it an utterly bizarre question. You clearly live in London now, so can easily visit any area to look round it. You clearly have no major financial limitations on which part of London you could live in. You clearly have very specific tastes if you've been unable to answer this question so far yourself, given all of London to choose from and have somehow arrived at Chislehurst (!?!) as the "only option".
I can't understand what you could possibly gain from asking some randoms on the internet, when you have very personal, subjective requirements. But hope you get what you need, anyway.
But off the top of my head: Clapham, Beckenham, Balham, Dulwich, Herne Hill, Angel...all villagey to one degree or another and have plentiful stock of family homes of all types for under £2m in easy reach of the City.
I was just curious if I’d missed anywhere obvious, there is a huge amount of land 30 minutes out of the major stations, and it would take years to search it all.0 -

I think I’ll extend the length of commute that I’ll look at, and consider a bit further out.0 -
That's very near to where we bought our first house.0 -

What's it like there? I visited friends of an ex there once, and met a date there and it seemed nice, and I've heard good things, but don't really know it as such. OP seems to have ignored it lol.2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -
What kind of job do you have where you can accumulate £2m but you're not able to make a decision on where to live?
Anyway if I had £2m I'd move out of London, buy a nice house up north and retire on what I had left in the bank.0 -

I’m in the fortunate position of already having a very nice house up North where I’m from, but I still work in London and am not quite yet ready to retire back there yet.0 -

I liked it there hazyjo, it was very convenient because I worked in Bromley. It was much nearer to work than before we got married, I lived in Biggin Hill as a child.
Not sure which station in London you could get to from West Wickham station but there are two stations in Bromley - Bromley North and Bromley South.0 -
Woodford, Snaresbrook, Aldersbrook and Wanstead are all nice areas though they're defintely not villages. Your £2m would get you a large welll built house in these areas, plus you have a straightforward commute down the Central Line into the City. Best of all it's very easy to get on to the motorway network.
If you do want to spend the whole £2m you could move a few stops along the line to Chigwell, howver the expensive houses round there whilst luxurious are also pretty tacky.0 -
We looked at the new houses in the Chigwell Village development. They are really nice, but it was too long of a commute over all. Over an hour from the house to Charing Cross, which is a shame as the houses and development are lovely.0

My mum's still in Chigwell (where I grew up) so shout if you reconsider it (btw in a non-tacky house
but I know what you mean re a few of the mock tudors, pillars and concrete lions by gates).
