Wimbledon - tram, tube, trains and a massive common. Nice shops and pubs.

Have lived in Blackheath too, and Westcombe Park. There might not be anything there for you at the moment, but I'm sure it's the right area for you.

    There's these two:

Their not much around, but it was one of the loveliest places I've lived. Felt leafy, peaceful and minutes away from Blackheath and Greenwich and the park.

Thanks. Pinner!!!8217;s 45 minutes out, so further than I want, and some of the links don!!!8217;t have a garage, which is a must.

I!!!8217;m probably looking for around 3,500-4,000 sq ft, and starting to suspect that Chisleford is the best option.

If it wasn!!!8217;t for stamp duty I!!!8217;d probably buy in Blackheath, but it!!!8217;d be far too much tax to choose to pay.

This is a bit of a strange response, really. I can google, and have, but why not also ask on here?

Sorry, I just found it an utterly bizarre question. You clearly live in London now, so can easily visit any area to look round it. You clearly have no major financial limitations on which part of London you could live in. You clearly have very specific tastes if you've been unable to answer this question so far yourself, given all of London to choose from and have somehow arrived at Chislehurst (!?!) as the "only option".

I can't understand what you could possibly gain from asking some randoms on the internet, when you have very personal, subjective requirements. But hope you get what you need, anyway.

But off the top of my head: Clapham, Beckenham, Balham, Dulwich, Herne Hill, Angel...all villagey to one degree or another and have plentiful stock of family homes of all types for under £2m in easy reach of the City.

    Sevenoaks too far? Several there.

PS lots of ex Central Londoners seem to head to Sevenoaks. Several of our lawyers at work have gone that way.

Datchet Eton Eton Wick are all nice villagey type places and very close to Windsor and Slough which have trains into London Waterloo 45 minutes or London Paddington 15 minutes (fast train) respectively. Burnham and Taplow are also on the Slough line

Highgate, Crouch End, Chalk Farm, Belsize Park ... £2m will buy you something decent, even in most of these areas.

Move to Scotland and buy half of it with that £2m.

You'll probably find much better property for your money in South London.
North of the river won't give the same value for money.
