I know there are thousands of dissatisfied Paypal users.

I also know there are millions of happy Paypal users. I am one of them.

I can’t prove it but I strongly suspect that most of the gripes are from people who either did not understand the rules, or ignored them.

I can only really speak from personal experience, and that has been largely positive.

I compare Ebay and Paypal to the M25.

Before Ebay and Paypal, it was harder to buy and sell stuff.

Now it is easy, but people still moan when it all goes wrong.

Before the M25, it took 90 minutes to drive to Essex from Surrey.

When the M25 is running smoothly, the journey is now 40 minutes.

Sometimes it takes 60 minutes because of the volume of traffic.

People moan like hell about the awful M25 when it takes 60 minutes instead if the usual 40 minutes.

They forget that without the M25 it would take them 90 minutes.

    Worth thinking about maybe? :)

    I

My cousin did have a strange phone conversation with ebay tho once. He sold something (for about £15 I think), the buyer swore he sent cash in the post for the item which my cousin never received, so he refused to send the item. Next thing u know ebay are on the phone telling him to post the item even though he had not received the payment - he told them where to go of course.

    .

Oh dear, I think your cousin was scammed ....Really, ebay phoning about a cash payment that no one can prove was sent..and someone actually believed this call was from ebay

I had a recent situation like this I was trying to sell a mobile phone on e-bay and clearly stated UK buyers only. auction ended and winner was polish and had an unconfirmed polish address, tried to scare me into sending it to them by saying I'd get negs etc.. I then had a look at second chance offers and the next two were from nigeria & hong kong with both unconfirmed address so ended up selling to the forth in line who lived in dagenham although he did keep e-mailing and messing about for a week he eventually buy it. the whole experience has left me very negative of e-bay and I have found the best thing to do is to e-mail e-bay specifying what you intend to do and that you are doing it to avoid being a victim of fraudulent activity, and so inturn to avoid negative publicity to ebay. the result is that they agree with you and protect your interests.

What you are describing is second chance offers and is nothing like being outbid, having the bid cancelled and then finding you are the winner at the end. All second chance offers given to ebayers who were not the original winner dont have to accept and therefore pay and can ignore it. All you are hoping for is that someone will accept the lesser offer and make payment as the original winner had opted out, not paid or simply not followed your lsiting requirments.

OP can you not see the cancelled bid on the bidding page?
Used to be that seller had to write an explanation for why they were cancelling a bid that was viewable to everyone even if the auction was set to private.

I have never had such a situation, but others on here state repeatedly that, if you have used a Paypal approved delivery method, then this should not happen.

Did you have an acceptable proof of delivery?

Most people fall foul of Paypal because they ignore the advice from Paypal about which delivery method to use.

The big loss I had was sent special delivery & I sent the proof to Paypal but to no avail. This is the one where they paid with a stolen credit card. Paypal make a big thing about sorting this problem out but it wasn't the case.

Most of the other occasions I think they were sent standard 1st class but I always kept the proof of postings. It was not always practical or cost effective to send recorded when I used to send maybe 100-150 items a week.
