The whimsical tale of the Waterbed of Debt

  • "I think it leaves me with about £10 to clear and close each card." - Just think, £10 for each card is £20. £20, to save by 2020.... that's like a pint every 6 months you need to sacrifice. Or 7 tubs of Ice cream you can instead put the money to the cards!

How is the mortgage doing? I only ask because I'm following your posts for inspiration.

I have had my first mortgage now since Aug 2013 and we haven't made any over-payments yet. I'm 31 in 3 days time, so I think to my self - when I'm 40 i'll start overpaying... what are your thoughts?

Definitely this ^^ Imagine (or calculate) how much interest you will save in 9 years by OP'ing now. Even if you just round down your account every week. Every penny can make a difference

I have to say I agree with this. I am overpaying AS MUCH AS I CAN without hitting penalties. So the last couple of years I have managed to overpay by 10%. I have had some help from my dear old dad :rotfl:
which causes me some issues in my head as he is the cause of many of the issues in my head and the reason I've spent £1.5k on EMDR therapy and about £350 on therapy for dealing with narcissists and an ACE childhood* in the past 3 years

However he has also given us all some money and I have used that towards the mortgage because ultimately I am relatively sensible (if a little unhinged)

So the Mortgage is just a smidge over £62k (£38 quid over to be precise) which is not too shaby as my starting point was £92k in January 2015. I aim to pay in about £100 if that is the amount i am over in December and if I won't trigger overpayment penalties to bring the figure into the £50k's. :T:T:T
It will be close, I know that.

One of my brilliant friends says; "Out of debt....out of danger" Having my house paid off would really help this philosophy.

So...in other news.....the hospital rang today and I am booked in for my operation next Thursday. Now starting to brick it.....starting to question even if I need it. I mean it's just a lump .......a lump that's affecting my voice......a lump that's affecting my voice and my ability to swallow!
    A bit frightened.

We're going to see the Terracotta Army in Liverpool two days after aswell but I'll just have to see how I am! I can always go to China later :D Very MSE!

I'll just say Circle, it is really satisfying to see the amount you are paying in interest coming down each month.
I pay £750 a month and now there is £541 of it coming off the capital. It just gets better and better and better. Plus it puts you in a better position should your life circumstances change.

    Mortgage looking good Butti.

I would be terrified about the operation.

So I've been in the pub tonight :eek::eek::eek:
Well I did have Monday and Tuesday alcohol free :T:T

Literally as soon as I walked in the pub the landlord asked me if I had a date ie. for the op.
It appears he is going drive me in.
I'm going to have to go off and have a little cry now because that is so nice and I can't cope! My head finds the idea of a man being this nice to me SO BIZARRE. My early life is still so large in my head.

Some of you will not get this concept (and that is very good)
I think the pub landlord has been 'saved' by he wife's family who all seem to be lovely. I think his family were rubbish and hence we are kind of kindred spirits.
