Getting a quote today. I’ve a big house but the new people are buying most of my stuff but I’m a bit worried they will just look at the size of the house and charge me loads. Just wondered what others have been quoted/paid.
I’m doing all the packing and new house is 2 roads away. Once at the new house only 2 mattresses and a few boxes and clothes going upstairs all the rest is being stacked downstairs in a back room.
Upstairs I’m only taking 2 beds/3 mattresses. 3 chest of draws. 4 bedside cupboards and 3 small units. 2 TVs, 3 ottomans and 3 people’s hanging.
Downstairs it’s just a trunk, dining table and 6 chairs, two long cabinets, a desk, shelf unit, coffee table, a tv, washing machine and tumble drier, 2 console tables. Then have about 60 boxes max. Outside table and chairs and barbecue.
We will be moving bits in during exchange and completion as well as hopefully getting the keys.

From memory, around £680 to move from a 3-bed to a 4-bed in the same town (in Kent). Worth every penny.0

If that really is the case that you can move stuff over a few days between exchange and completion (that arrangement would be very unusual), tell the removers.
They might be able to fit you in around other jobs, do multiple trips with a smaller van, etc - which could be much cheaper.
But like I say, it's very unusual to get the keys before completion - so make absolutely sure that's the case.0 -
Two men and a Luton-size van was £60 per hour.0

I thought you said the buyers were having most of your stuff!!0

They are!!
Im not moving any sofas, no wardrobes, no cooker or fridge freezer, leaving 3 whole bedrooms worth of stuff and loads of mirrors, console tables, curtains and lights.0 -
We are not going to be moving furniture in between exchange and completion just going to move all bits from our shed into the new one , indoor plants, kitchen bits etc.0

In the North East, for a similar amount of stuff, local family firms were around £500 for 4 men and an insured van. The cheap-as-chips two men in a van without insurance was £250.
We moved 90 yardsand it took all day (because we went with the cheap-as-chips option). We would have been a lot faster with 4 blokes.
One company with international aspirations and a nicer van quoted £1,600 :eek:I've got a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.0 -
London/Essex - 40 miles ish, think it was £1100 or 1200. Shorter moves have cost me £1000. That's for packing service and moving, so not hugely comparable, but might give you an idea if yours is even steeper without packing.2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0
