Apologies if I've missed an entire thread- I've done a search and nothing has come up. I'm a bit of a luddite with phones and want to make sure I check everything out before I commit to a new 2 year contract.

I'm currently with Vodafone and looking to leave, Virgin happened to mention that because I currently have my broadband and landline with them that I can have a good mobile phone deal- and they suggested a plan that beats anything that Vodafone can offer me.

I've no experience of any other supplier than Vodafone, been with them for years and I'm pleased with the coverage both here and in Europe. is the Vodafone coverage generally better than others, or are they all roughly the same now? Also, I assume the roaming costs are the same as I understand that is a UK requirement now - although Vodafone told me that it was just them that allowed me to use my minutes and data in Europe without charge, so I am unsure.

Any advice or pitfalls to watch for would be welcome. I'm only looking at a plan currently for an IPhone 7 , so not the latest all singing all dancing one. I've looked at one of those coverage checkers, and locally Virgin 4G look brilliant in my area.

Don't rely on coverage checkers, get a free PAYG SIM from Asda Mobile who like Virgin use EE and test the signal for yourself before committing assuming your phone is SIM unlocked or you can ask others.

I find VF and EE to have generally the best coverage but not always the same in the same area. In Wales for some reason 3 is generally better in most but not all areas. Never been totally happy with O2 coverage. But I travel all over the country, if it just in one area check out the coverage as above if nesessary with other networks PAYG SIMs first.

Recently moved from Talk Mobile (VF) to Virgin (EE) for my main SIM.

Virgin use the EE network and is considered by some to be the best, there will always be areas where it varies, but on the whole its decent. As far as roaming in Europe goes, its the same, you can use your UK allowances from both for free(there are data limits at high usage), I think the only difference is that Vodafone include Turkey within Europe.
You may be better if possible to buy the iPhone on its own and get a sim only contract, it may well be cheaper.
Having your mobile on the same contract can sometimes get complicated if you change companies, just something to consider, in some ways its easier to keep it separate, depends how good a deal it is.

Deal at CPW on Vodafone is £159.99 for the iPhone 7 the 24 x £23=£712
