these seem to be the only budget phones at 5.5"/6" screensize at ~£100 at Tesco mobile sim free. Anyone had experience of either or suggest an alternative?. I was tempted by the Samsung s9 offer at mobiles.co.uk highlighted by mse but can't bring myself to pay over £700 for a few calls, texts and whats app messages and a bit of internet surfing

Three things I have learnt through bitter experience:

    1. It's never a good idea to buy the latest release of any phone as despite glowing reviews reliability problems will not have surfaced.

    2. Never, ever, deal with CPW who are totally unhelpful when anything goes wrong.

    3. Always use Google or a similar search engine to find out what problems users are having with different handsets.

It is worth noting that the E5 Plus is released next month with slightly better specs than the E4 Plus.

I don't think Nokia have any input to Alcatel phones, unlike the license deal with HMD for Nokia phones it was just a lucky occurrence for Nokia that when Nokia bought Alcatel Lucent they ended up owning the name which was licenced to a company called TCL long before Nokia bought the company. While Nokia has oversight and veto rights over HMD Nokia products they have no actual link to TCL or any Alcatel products they make.

Here is one article that explains the differences, I don't think I would expect Alcatel phones to be built to Nokia standards though. They are not bad phones, but I think the Nokia brand phones are better though
