What's the cheapest call/text I can make (to save Freedom Pop credit)

I am now in a situation with FP (which I thought would be free) where my £8.50 credit balance isn't enough for them, despite only now using within the allowances of the 'free' plan. They're going to take another £10 from my bank because the balance is below £10! I'll never get back any of this £18 unless I use some of it every 30 days. I have to give 30 days notice (in writing!) to end this contract, which has also cost me an extra 2 x £3.99 in unexplained charges. So, this has to be out-of-bundle which is calls and texts to UK landlines and mobiles.

    Don't give notice on it.

There's a good chance they will refund if you ask, and you can disable automatic top-up.

    Why would they do that?
You can't disable it without paying £3.49pm for something worth a tiny fraction of that!

    I was charged a top-up when I reached 180 MB in a month.

I phoned up and asked about this. There is a preemptive buffer, so reserve credit will be there if you exceed the allowance.

I said I didn't intend or want to exceed the allowance, and it was unfair to charge ahead of reaching it. They refunded, and told me to to disable automatic top-up. There is no monthly charge.

I had a similar issue on a different SIM, the roaming one which wasn't on sale for long, when I had wrongly assumed I had already disabled automatic top-up on that one. Again a refund, again we talked about manually disabling automatic top-up.

Why would they do that? I don't know, but they did, and thus seem to me very fair. You won't discover or believe this yourself unless you ask.

I don't know where you get that idea (or what you've done) but I disabled auto topup on my FreedomPop sim about a month after it arrived and have never been charged a £3.49 (or any other amount) charge nor have any auto top ups been taken.
