My Passport expires in mid July, holiday in Portugal mid June.

I have booked a holiday in Porto, Portugal for a week in mid June.

My ten year UK passport expires on 18th July.

Might I have a problem?

Should I get a new passport before travelling?

I am flying with Easyjet and they have accepted my passport details without raising an issue.

I am flying with my wife whose UK passport has over three years to run.

Thanks

You'll be fine, but apply for a new one now anyway. That'll expire July 2028.

Do the renewal now; did mine immediately after Easter, applied online with new photo, all done in 10 days.

Don't stay in Porto all week. There's some easy day trips you can do by train along the coast or by public bus.

    Old one will be fine.

Be careful doing a renewal online with photo upload at such a late stage.

You have to return your old passport before they begin the process of sorting out a new one.

It can then take a week or so to get back to you on whether the photo is acceptable. You then may have to provide a new one and wait again. All this time you have no passport!

For this reason, I suggest you wait until low season (Winter) before doing your renewal. So long as both the UK and Portugal are part of the EU you have an absolute right to visit with a passport that is even one day before expiry (and some rights to travel with an expired passport).

    Passport validity
Your passport should be valid for the proposed duration of your stay; you don’t need any additional period of validity on your passport beyond this.

No. The photo check is done when uploading it online.
As I said, I just did this process, all done and dusted inside 10 days.

    Thanks everyone.

I'll apply for a new passport when we get back from Portugal as we probably won't go abroad again until September.
