Involved in car accident without insurance

Involved in a car accident on the 24th April 2018, wasn't insured and at fault.
The First driver of the car changed the car insurance to another REG 4 days prior to accident, hence it wasn't insured which i was not aware of.
Police turned to scene, and checked for insurance and said its not insured (at that time I genuinely thought i was insured), Therefore I provided them with insurance certificate and they said they'll be checking this back at station and get back to me.
Not heard anything from them since then.
NOW.. received a letter from other party insurer to provide with insurance details..
Where should i go from here? what can i say to the other party insurer?

You could give them the same information as you gave the police.
The police no longer accept paper certificates.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
What would happen? Would i have to payout for the damages on the car and will i get 6 points on my license for driving without insurance?
Both of these scenarios are highly likely. If the third party decides to put in a PI claim, spurious or otherwise, you may need to deal with that also.
Usually no insurance is an 'absolute' offense but it may be worth understanding how you came to be driving uninsured without knowing it. Were you specifically told by the car owner that you were insured? Why would they not inform you if the policy had been cancelled?0 -
Were you ever insured to drive the car, even before the insurance was switched to another vehicle?0

Whats a PI claim? I was insured all year around on this vehicle but my uncle changed the insurance to his other car which was parked up for a while and he did not mention it to me. I was always insured, if i knew i wasn't i wouldn't have took the risk at all!
The policy was not cancelled but transferred to another car. Should i tell the other party insurance company that i was not insured or just give the details of my insurance which was swapped to other car?0 -
PI=Personal Injury0

PI = Personal Injury. If the other driver was hurt in the accident they would normally make a claim against your insurance. If you are not insured then both for the damage to their car, and for any injuries they suffer, they can claim directly against you, or alternatively they may claim against the 'MIB' (Motor Insurers Bureau) scheme, which can then pursue you to recover from you, anything they pay to to the other driver, and any legal costs etc. they incur. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0

You're in a spot of trouble here Uzzy. You're liable for the damage and any injuries, and you've may have a criminal prosecution pending as well (points, fines).
The most productive thing you can do now is ask the third party if you can settle the claim privately.
Presumably, you can evidence that you were insured to drive the car prior to the change in insurer, and when your uncle changed the car that was insured you were still named on the policy? This won't alter the fact that you were driving without insurance, but if you can show it was an honest mistake and you believed you were insured then it might sit well in the eyes of the court.
I'm slightly troubled by the idea that you had access to a car insured by your uncle, and he didn't think to tell you that he'd changed the insurance, or that by changing the insurance he was putting you in a position where by you'd be driving his car without insurance, and putting his car in a position where it was being driven uninsured. Is it his car, or yours?0 -

I would love to solve this privately without taking it any further, but the only issue with that is i don't have their contact details -- all i have is their insurance certificate which does not show their address or contact details.
and the car is my uncles but usually stays with me as he is out of the country and resides in Germany, I think he changed the insurance over to the other car when he was driving it from somewhere to home, but forgot to change it back over to the car I was driving.
It is very unfortunate to be going through situation like this, but I'm quite confused as to the police hasn't been in contact yet, also what shall i say to the other party insurance? should i give them my car insurance details and just hope that it works out and goes through, or should i tell them that this car wasn't insured at the time of accident?0
