Advice on solicitor please

I have been using an online conveyancer to purchase a house which has been an extremely slow process and the staff have had to be pushed along constantly to get to where we are now

We are currently nearing the end to completion at long last, then today I received a document on the online portal that the surveyors use which is an email from my solicitors to the sellers solicitors. The email consists of my solicitor calling me high maintenance and that I call her persistently even though she has explained that this isn't straight forward. I'm not sure what to do with this, it may seem petty but the whole event has been stressful and took a lot longer than it should due to the incompetence of the company I am using. The sale should have been straight forward and there hasn't been been anything that would prove different.

What would you do now?

Thanks

I would ask her how she thinks that is how a professional should work? She owes you at least an apology.

Depends on the context I think - sometimes it's a friendly method of badgering the other side into progressing things e.g. "sorry to be a pain but my client is never off the phone and we really need an answer..." etc. But I would normally reserve that sort of comment for phone calls rather than putting it in writing! Bit daft of them if they haven't realised you can see it.

Question. Do you want the house that you are purchasing?

If yes, then have a glass of wine down the Bulls Head tonight and something to eat, this will take your mind off it, because your solicitor probably is prodding the other one to get a move on in a kind of way.

If no, then why are you wanting to buy a house anyway!

I!!!8217;m having an unpleasant experience with my solicitor as well.

I think she!!!8217;s very unprofessional. She was meant to call me to introduce herself and tell me more about the process and she never did.

She!!!8217;s ignored me so far and the only email I!!!8217;ve received from her to date is one telling me that she!!!8217;s opened a file for me.

I know that things have progressed with the searches as the administrative assistant told me. There!!!8217;s nothing that!!!8217;s needed from my end at this point, but I!!!8217;m getting zero communication from them about the process. I!!!8217;ve decided to bear and grin it to see the process to the end, and zip my mouth. But I think they are so rude and unprofessional.

I saw that some people have given them bad reviews online so I shall be considering doing the same, perhaps three months after completion.

The only reason I went with them is because they are on the developers panel and the ones I wanted to go with are apparently very busy which could cause delays.

As others say, it's probably just a friendly way of encouraging the other solicitor to get moving.

In your position, I might even 'run with the joke' and refer to myself as their 'high maintenance client' in future emails. Your solicitor might react more positively to mild humour, than aggressive complaining.

    +1

If the OP's solicitor is currently slow, unresponsive, seems to have OP low down her list of priorities, a humorous approach like this might move the OP higher up the solicitor's food chain. Kind of "Oops that was embarrassing, better keep her on my good side if I don't want a bad review". Being a badass about it might have the opposite effect.

Why don't people use local solicitors they have met, created a rapport with, and trust, as opposed to the cheapest online outfit they can find on the internet, or the firm 'recommended' by their estate agent (broker, whoever) who is getting a commission for the recommendation. And who does not want to risk losing the stream of recommendations so will put the EA, broker's interests above the clients........?

Unfortunately G_M I am a FTB and in my ignorance to all of this believed what my broker said when they advised that it would be better to use their recommended company
Even reading this back I realise it was a very stupid mistake to make and have definitely paid the consequences for it

    Rachie,
Given the e-mail you have sen, I would suggest that you contact your conveyancer, explain that you saw the comments and that you have called frequently because you have not been kept updated. (assuming that is true).
I am usually one of the people on these boards telling people not to call their solicitor or conveyancer every day / week but that is beacuse it siomply slows down a conveyancer who is doing their job. Which includes letting you know promptly when there is any progress, and giving you an idea of what is going on ad how long things are likely to take.

if they haven't been keeping you informed, it is valid to "I've called regularly as I haven't been kept updated, question haven't been answered etc. You've said that it is not straight forward but you have not told me what is causing the hold up, what steps you are taking to resolve it (or what needs to be done by other parties) . I don't feel that you have kept me infomred about the process"

Obviously if they have kept you informed so the issue is just that she made the comment to the other solicitor then limit it to saying "I don't feel it was appropriate to describe me that way to a third party"
All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)
