I think it's from iOS 'smart punctuation' that the forum can't handle - you (qwert yuiop) could turn it off on your device and I think they'd stop appearing.

OK, chaps. You've seen the diagrams, it's easier to pass a compact group of bikes than a looooong string in single file. That's a fact.

What is the real problem? So you have to wait a few seconds to overtake. Tractors hold you up too, as do horses, yet I never see diatribes about them.

Only this morning I witnessed dozens of drivers waiting patiently as a HGV driver held them up while he reversed from a main road through a gate. This went on for 4-5 minutes. I didn't hear a single beep or a murmur of annoyance. There's no thread complaining about it on MSE.

Please try to remember that "cyclists" are human beings too.

So there we have it. Four and more - entitled , arrogant, selfish, greedy - and breaking the law.
    Thank you.

Giving the rest of us a bad name.

Were they across the centre line on the other side of the road? No? Then what's the problem? You have to cross into the other lane to overtake anyway.

Actually, yes, I did have an important appointment, and if I had known it was going to take me that long to get there, I would have gone by bike myself. The difference is I would have gone faster, and after I had pulled out far enough to pass my man with the less than beauteous gluteus, I would have pulled in tight again, allowing other road users to get by.

Sounds like you ride your bike in a worrying fashion, if you're "pulling in tight" - that's very risky.

Oh and if it would have been quicker to get there by bike, why drive? :)

Tractors usually hold me up on the way to work and the 'late to work because of a tractor' excuse seems to be accepted so that's fine :) Hardly ever see horses on the roads I'm usually traveling though.

Cyclists however seem to be out in packs most Saturdays (I am sure tractors are also out on Saturdays but usually they are in a field by the time I am on the road)

I think its a symptom of the selfishness of people these days in modern society - the world must after all, revolve around them.

Therefore when they're out on the road everyone should just bow down to their needs.

And yes, these people also need told - just because you can fit in to lycra shorts and tops doesnt mean you should or that you do

How dare those selfish cyclist hold you up. Dont they know who you are?

Youre post is an oxymoron. Try and give me a reason for being in front of a cyclist without being selfish.

Because the highway code says that if you're in charge of a slow moving vehicle you should pull over periodically to allow faster moving traffic to pass.

I've seen tractors do that, i've seen HGVs do that, i've seen horse riders do that. Never seen cyclists do it though.

And likewise, its simply common courtesy. Nothing to do with me being more important. If you're slowing other people down, do what you can to facilitate others.

If i'm for whatever reason moving more slowly than traffic / people around me then i'll do what i can to let them past - whether that be stepping to one side if i'm walking or ensuring other vehicles can pass easily.

Not so with your typical heads down !!!! up crew out on their bikes though.

Tractors and horse riders typically will pull over to let you past. Cyclists rarely make any effort. Particularly these clumps of "riding clubs" that seem to frequent our roads at the weekend.

Because hes doing his - often difficult - job. Hes doing his best to get out of people way, not driving in a manner for pleasure that prevents people passing.

I'll always attempt to help facilitate the manuevre of a HGV or van, and they're usually grateful enough to acknowledge it.

And maybe cyclists need to remember that other human beings use the roads too. ;)

More often than not now I have to tell my kids to move over to let the cyclist past, never mind that they should be on the road not the footpath....

So the OP is wrong and they are all on the footpaths?
