I!!!8217;m not sure 5 or even 4 cyclists could safely ride side by side and only occupy a single lane anyway..

But, let!!!8217;s face it. If they slow you down to 20 mph for a few seconds/minutes.. does it really matter in the grand scheme of things?

Are you that busy that you can!!!8217;t wait for a few minutes..

Often yes. And why should we all sit behind a clump of cyclists for several minutes or more just because they are selfish?

The problem is that there are way too many impatient and dangerous drivers around that means cyclists have had to learn to protect themselves and make it obvious in places that it!!!8217;s not safe to overtake.

And cyclists are doing it for our own good then? :rotfl:

    Selfishness - plain and simple.

Oh, and a post further up said !!!8220;they!!!8217;re meant to cycle single file!!!8221; hence the 2 abreast is legal references

One person suggesting it hardly warranted a "oh here we go" though did it? That would intimate everyone was jumping on board with that.

At least if they are porky they are trying to do something about it!

And having done cycling training a few years ago they advise cycling in the middle of the lane for safety reasons.

    Shared space and all that....

Often they're porky and stay porky.

They advise cycling in the middle of the road as you're less likely to hit pot holes and imperfections with those waifer thin tyres and lightweight alloy wheels that are [STRIKE]fashionable [/STRIKE]necessary.

The point is, it!!!8217;s not a shared space, it!!!8217;s an appropriated space, unknown behaviour just a few years ago. I don!!!8217;t behave like that on my bike. No one else needs to either.

I guess the road itself is the shared space, however as you say, taking appropriate space is whats key.

Its symptomatic of life today anyway. Far too many people believe the world revolves around them and their needs.

You only have to walk down a street these days. I remember my parents telling me when i was little (and i told my son) to "mind out of that mans way" if there was someone behind me. We were taught to not get in other peoples way. Nowadays parents just indulge their little darlings and its everyone else who has to walk around them whilst their gormless parents look on.

Maybe we're seeing the first generation of those kids with those behaviours growing up now to be self centred adults?

More often than not now I have to tell my kids to move over to let the cyclist past, never mind that they should be on the road not the footpath....

The children from the small families from the later decades of the 20 th century are now parents. There you are - blame the pill.

Speaking of which (sort of), I!!!8217;m down south again today ( by car), and we!!!8217;ve now got a new crop
of posters calling for a Yes vote in the abortion law referendum. These simply feature Mary Lou mcdoughnut!!!8217;s grinning head accompanied by the word Yes. What an obvious invitation to jokes and vandalism.

Well as long as they’re not plodding along close to the white line at walking pace.
