Hi! Presently on BT sim only, 6gb data, unlimited calls texts & g/f is also with them on a lower data sim only. We both get the £5 pp disc. as we are broadband customers. G/f happy to keep her sim only, I pay £12 pcm inc. discounts. I have my sim in an oldisg bought 2nd hand on EBay Samsung Galaxy S3 mini, old android operating system.

I NEVER go more than 1gb data...as always use WiFi. Recently ancient phone is starting to stick, cut off for no reason.

On BT mobile site as an existing customer can get either Nokia 3 or Samsung J3....works out about £12.70 a month total, unlimited mins/texts. 1 GB data. Seems a no brained to Mr....but confused as to which set to go for? Don't do gaming/social media at all, don't store many images/videos. Can put these on SD card if needed. Apparently Nokia S3 , which has 16gb storage, doesn't allow you to take back off to replace battery, dealt only??! Samsung J3 DOES allow this but only 8gb storage ( on my Samsung s3 mini as you can't move/delete the 'bloatware' apps it fills fast and slows phone down), so confused as to which to go for.

Or....any other suggestions? Tryingnto keep price no more than £14 a month. Any help would be great!

The J3 is the 2016 version, so will stop getting updates, 8Gb is so small, Nokia seems the better option.

Thanks! Looking at the plusses & minuses.... & also the fact I'm not a trendy young thing....not into social media at all....the inconvenience of taking to a shop to get a new battery fitted is minor compared to the price and specifications offered.

Will sort on Friday for definate.

Any further thoughts kind people or is the no kia 3 the way to go for my budget??? Think it probably will be (!).

Another option is to buy a phone outright for apx £150. £14 x 24months is £336, so £150 for a phone will give you £7.50 a month for a sim.

There is the newly released Motorola G6 Play
    https://www.carphonewarehouse.com/motorola/g6-play.deal.html

Virgin tariff for £8/month when you buy the phone for £149. Works out at £341 for 2 years. The advantage being that the Virgin tariff is only a 1 month contract, so if you find one cheaper you can easily switch.

There are other 1 month contracts for £15 or £16/month and you can buy the phone for £129, I don't think there is any reason why having bought it you could cancel the contract straight away, keep the phone and find another sim only deal.

Thanks for ALL THE feedback. Given that I am on a tight budget & BT discount of £5 a month I think Nokia 3 is the way to. REALLY appreciate help and advice!...!!!8230;but £13 a month, no upfront and brand new handset seem impossible to beat.....especially as imy laying £212 sim only and using an ancient galaxy mini s 3! Thanks again!

Have you considered staying SIM only with BT but dropping to say a £5 per month (after disc.) 0.75GB/m contract?

Saving £7.70 a month would soon add up, and you could then easily afford a modern £100 - £150 phone outright. Lots of nice options in that price range, Nokia 5, Moto G6, or if you want a bigger higher spec device a Xiaomi Redmi 5 plus is possible.

PS - I'm on a 1Gb/m BT sim only deal for £5/month, you just have to keep an eye on the BT offers and swap when it appears. This deal seems to come round fairly often, but currently its just the 0.75Gb/m for £5 on site.

Three things I have learnt through bitter experience:

    1. It's never a good idea to buy the latest release of any phone as despite glowing reviews reliability problems will not have surfaced.

    2. Never, ever, deal with CPW who are totally unhelpful when anything goes wrong.

    3. Always use Google or a similar search engine to find out what problems users are having with different handsets.

Thanks all! See my other thread....Moto G6 play is the one for me! Thanks again. Smarty sim only on 3 at £7.50 pcm. 2gb way more than I use, but unlimited mins and texts, data carries over, 1 month rolling contract.
