Hi how is everyone?
New member on this site.
So i bought a car on 16th march 2018 from a dealer in stoke. It was bough on motonovo finance on hire purchase. The car was bought to my house and documents signed at my house.
Car in question is a jaguar xfs 2009 model with 97000 on the clock bought at a pice of £8700 which includes a deposit of £2100. Car came with a 3 month warranty.
Now whats happend is that after two days after purchase my infontainment system just failed and just keeps crashing without loading which renders the parking sesnors and clinate control and many other things useless.
After 1 week the gearbox just kept on vibrating when i took it on the a roads to work, so called up the dealer and showed him the problem and he agreed to get it fixed, all he did was take it for a gearbox service and thats it.
Now the problem went away but had returned now with the car running on 70/80 mph on motorway it just constantly vibrates . I have told the dealer the problem and he just waved it away saying its just minor.
After 2 weeks the turbo started making a noise and again i told the dealer and i got the same response that its only a small problem.
On 6th of april 2018 i called the finance company i wanted to activate my short term time to reject as i was within the 1 month period. I told them the car has too many faults and is not of satisfactory quality considering the make and model of the car. I told them that all these faults within 3 weeks of buying a car which i paid £8700 for is not just good enough. The whole reason i bought the car was for peace of mind which the car is not.
Finance company has told me to get a dignostic report done to prove the faults are there even though the dealer has sat in the car and has seen all the problems in the car. Now i told the finance company i want to return the car and do not want any more repairs as i already gave them one chance with the gearbox problem. The dealer is constantly trying to nag me that he will repair all the problems but i have told him no i want to return the car.
The dealer expects me to take the car to a garage of my choice and get the things repaired and he will pay me the money which i think is quite funny as he will blame me if anything goes wrong. It should be the dealers problem in that he takes the car for repair himself to his own choice of garage.
Yesterday the cars turbo completly just went and now car is in limp mode and i cant get to work or drive the car as it wont pick up speed at all. I told the finance company this that when i told the dealer all he said it was a minor issue. Yet finance company is saying give them one chance to fix the problems even though they had a chance to fix it but they never bothered.
Car will be going for a diognostic report tomorrow then we will await the outcome.
I just wanted to ask you freindly people your opnions as to wether the return of the car will be accepted or not as its not even roadworthy anymore and i cant even drive it, nor are they giving me a courtusy car to use.
I have saved up all the evidence of the problems including pictures of the codes and video proof of the faults, also i have taken screenshots of the conversation between myself and the dealer.
Thanks for your help

Also forgot to add within the first 3 weeks of purchase my dpf light came on twice and both times car went into limp mode.
Funny thing is that since i got the car i had done 1000 miles and 800 of them miles were motorway miles so i dont know how the dpf is getting clocgged up.0 -
I am no expert on car finance so I!!!8217;ll leave that for others. All I will say is that if you want peace of mind, don!!!8217;t spend 9k on a 9 year old car with 100k on the clock! Jaguar or not, that!!!8217;s not the way to peace of mind.0

I'm assuming it's the 3.0l V6.
Check the battery. I was having a few issues with the stereo on mine, then the car wouldn't start. It still had the original battery that it was built with, changed it and all was well. These cars need a good battery. One thing. What are you trying to load in it ? if it is a USB stick then there are known issues with these - basically they stereo is very picky as to what it will accept.
Which Turbo has gone ? There are 2.
As far as the DPF goes it sounds likely that it may have had a lot of fairly short runs so not getting up to temperature in the past. Could well have killed the DPF.
The Gearbox vibration is a bit odd. Are you sure it is the gearbox and not something else in the drivetrain ?0 -
You bought a 9 year old car with just short of 100k miles on the clock... for peace of mind?0
-
Yep its a 9 year old car and so whats wrong with that. Its a car it should do a job no get stuck in limp mode 3x and be undrive able.
The car had full jaguar service history and was told by the dealer who is my freinds cousin thats the car is in very good condition.
Just becuase a car is 9 years old it does not mean its not unrelaible.
I dont need your opinion on what peace of mind means. I have asked for your opnion as to wether the car can be returned?
By the way for your kind information according to the consumer rights the car should be of satisfactory quality even if its a used car.0 -
do you have an OBD reader that could pull the codes from the ECU ? might help to see what is wrong. Turbo failure on these is not unknown but neither is it common.0

My car is 18 years old with over 200,000 miles, and has never had as many problems as described in the original post above.
A specialist I spoke to recently said the highest mileage he has heard of on this type of engine is over 700,000.
It wouldn't give anyone else peace of mind to have mine now, but I'm happy enough to continue. But it sets some sort of context for modern cars, that 9 years and 100,000 shouldn't necessarily of itself be a signpost to expect problems.0 -
The reasons for buying this car are not relevant, what is is that it has a number of faults, that presumably existed at the time of sale and of which the dealer has failed to remedy. The OP is entitled to exercise their short-term right to reject.
OP, you need to write an LBA (letter before action) and formally reject the vehicle, making sure to copy the finance co. in as well. It may be an idea to follow their advice and get an independent report done to diagnose and outline the full extent of the problems.0 -

Jaguar are below many ''inferior'' makes when it comes to reliability.
In fact, they came 29th last year out of 32 manufacturers.....below the likes of Renault and Dacia.
If you want a reliable car.......don't buy a Jaguar0 -

I'm on my third older Jag. Apart from routine maintenance they have been faultless.
It also depends on which survey you use. What car 2017, ahead of Peugeot, Nissan, Citroen, Tesla etc. JD power has Jaguar above average and better than Mercedes, BMW, ford, Honda, Audi and about another 8 others.
Reliability surveys are, ironically, totally unreliable.0
