For Alliance & Leicester current accounts, the sort code and account number on the cheque books differs from the one used for DDs - I'm not sure whether this applies to any other banks, but it would appear to be a problem for A&L.
The correct account no and sort code is on a page near the front of the A&L cheque book.

I have tried to open an account with ICICI. Website was ok, but it took a while for them to reply. I am not on the electoral register so they have now emailed me wanting copies of evidence of identity, attested by my banker or solicitor.
This seems too much like hard work, and I suspect my Solicitor will charge me for the service, so I think I'll be back to the Best Rate tables to look for something else.

The most a solicitor would charge you for certifying a copy of your passport would be about a tenner - they do it all the time. If you have any friends that are solicitors they'll do it for free (well they should do!)0

So, how close this branch is to existing, I don't know. Also, all the website copyright notices strangely say "©2005-06". Maybe we only know about its existence in 2006, due to an ICICI time warp.

Leicester seems like a logical location, as it has a sizeable population with connections to the Asian subcontinent. I wonder where else branches might pop up. It'd certainly increase ICICI's foot-stamping potential.古池や蛙飛込む水の音0 -
That location is a reasonably credible one for the reasons you note. But the way it's suddenly appeared on the website is rather strange.0

Have had some good vibes from them in the recent past, as they actually called me on my mobile to inform me that they are sending my wife's password thed day before, and have again called me today saying they're sending mine today.
Well, I'm ready to pardon them for the inordinate delay in setting things up, provided this is not the case with the regular operations on the account. It's always the grass that suffers, irrespective of whether the elephants are fighting or making love !!!0 -
Warning re this bank. This could be an isolated case but a funds transfer has failed between my nominated account and Hisave account.
Yes the money has disappeared into the "ether."
As a comparison regards opening accounts. ICICI took over a month to open Hisave account. Applied to Bradford & Bingly last Monday for eSaver. Form requiring signature arrived Tuesday and was posted back, received email from them Wednesday advising my cheque and form had arrived. Today received email advising account open including user i/d and password just arrived in post with welcom letter.
Now that's more like it! :j0 -
Hi
I got the ICICI bank checked out by our finance people in work. They told me that it has got a poor credit rating. So although the interest rate is very attractive, I think I'll give these guys a miss!0 -

Could you give some more details (if you are allowed to). Is it ICICI UK that has a poor rating or the whole international ascpect of ICICI?"An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
