Returning kit - BT end of contract

Hi guys,

Recently, well, nearly 2 months ago now, we left BT Broadband/phone and have since had several emails/letters and pre-recorded messages left on our answerphone. Specifically they are asking me, and giving me guides, on how to return my router. It was itemised. I have also received pre-paid postal bags.

I have since had my final bill and can no longer log into my BT account.

Am I under any obligation to do this? From memory, when I signed up to their broadband service 12 months ago, I ended up having to pay £60 for 'my' kit.

Saturday, I had another letter, this time asking for my TV box to be returned. We didn't even have the TV box. Well, I think we did, but it was sent in error by them and we promptly returned it.

Any thoughts?

There is no need to return any equipment. BT offer to recycle if you send it back but you can keep it .

Did you fulfil the entire minimum term (12/18 months)? If not, BT charge you for the hub and box if you don't send it back. Even if you left 1 day before. If you did fully complete as the post above, there is no need to return it.
  • Yep, I left outside of the contract period - had my final bill, and everything was settled. The language in their comms has always 'friendly' regarding the returning of stuff but I would have thought they'd have left it drop by now! lol

They have sent you a prepaid bag. How much effort is it to bung the router in it and send it back, if you don't want to make use of it? Or put it on eBay.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Ha, I probably would send them the kit back - if I still had it... as you say, it went on the 'Bay months back! I've used my own kit for years :D

...just started panicking when the letters started coming through.

They do now charge for home hub routers if you leave within 12 months (up to £65), and returning them for recycling doesn't stop that charge it seems
