I know it was but would you believe a man who says there will be no job loses after doing that to his own company staff.
Ask the people who lost thier jobs after Kraft said they would not close any factories in the UK then after they got control of Cadbury's, closed a factory and moved the jobs to Poland on cost grounds. The more I live, the more I learn.

I think he means once the merge is done. Also I have a friend that works for Sainsburys and the team leaders and department managers in her store is 16. There will be 10 from 10th June. Her mum works at a larger store - 40 and will be 23 or 24. She is one taking redundancy as she will be 64 later this month. As well as the redundancy (19 years service) she can get another pension paying out in the summerThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. Aldi is making all the main players nervous, buying up competition isn't the way forward, this Asda/Sainsbury merger will be paid for by the customer, with price rises paying all the fatcat pay offs and bonuses, typically ill thought out as usual.

Aldi, and to a smaller extent Lidl, have the traditional big 3 running scared, and its about time.
We have an Asda at the end of the road but I much prefer Lidl even though I have to drive to the next town for it.
Also, look at the growth of Aldi the past 5 years. Its obvious that they are effectively now the leading supermarket in the UK.
There are 9 Aldi stores within 6/7 miles of my front door with at least 2 more planned and they are all busy when you walk in, plus the new decor/layouts are superb.
They couldnt make that investment without knowing they're going to get returns, and given how packed the stores are most of the time, it seems like they are confident of continued increase in market share.
We prefer Lidl and their produce is superior to that of the big 3. Not sure how good otber Lidl stores are as there are significantly fewer stores compared to Aldi, but our Lidl has a bakery and the bread/pastries/rolls etc are superb.
Their sourdough rounds are excellent. The best Ive tasted and go well toasted with Lidl's own tomato soup.
We buy the Lidl own brand bread now which is less than 60p a loaf and it tastes better than Warburtons, doesnt go stale as quickly, and lasts longer with a loaf staying fresh for a week.
We previously would only buy Warburtons. Not any more.
Only Morrisons pushes close with their meat selections which have always been very good.
I can remember when Aldi launched in the UK when I was a kid. Its claim to fame then was the 4p tin of beans.
As a kid at junior school you never wanted to be seen with an Aldi bag.
People would take carrier bags to Aldi not to put their shopping in, but to put the aldi carrier bag in so people didnt see them.
I also remember their being a big fuss made about the fact Aldi used trollies that you had to put a pound coin in to use. Now this is common practice at all sorts of shops.
They've come a long, long way from those days and now they are streaking away from the likes of Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's.
I cant comment on Waitrose/Ocado/M&S as I don't use them, mainly because they seem vastly overpriced.
One way we will be changing our shopping habits is to start using a local butcher.
We went to N Wales last week and popped into a butchers in Llandudno. The sausages and steak are out of this world, so much better than anything found in any supermarket.
If Asda and Sainsbury do merge it'll just lead to yet more mediocre service and produce.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

Aldi will get more sales if they improved their supply chain/storage for their produce! Very few people I know buy their meat, cereals, tinned stuff, cleaning stuff, bread from Aldi, but not the produce. They rather spend 25-40% more at other supermarkets and to use all 100% than saving the 25-40% then having to bin 50-75% of it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. In my view, Sainsbury's was at its best in the 1990s when it had a brilliant campaign "Just take........" advertising simple meals made with just a few ingredients and supplying recipe cards next to all the ingredients needed for that latest recipe.
At that time, they had a good range of very nice products, branded and own brand.
Since then, and certainly in the last few years, the number of products in the ranges seems to be reducing considerably, there is less choice, but they're trying to be all things to all men, with the clothing and household ranges.
They are stocking fewer and fewer of the things I like to buy.
Even their cafès don't provide very nice food anymore, like they used to.
There are about 4 or 5 products that I like that are unique to Sainsbury's, so I do go in for those from time to time, (plus to get foreign currency and to get my car washed in the car park!), but otherwise I'm using Waitrose, (I adore their quickscan handsets as I hate loading and unloading the trolley)! M&S and the Coop more.
Shame, really, given their history. As a very young child, I used to go with my mother into the J.Sainsbury stores that had the meat counter down one side, and the cheese etc. counter down the other side......you queued at one, then at the other, then you went and queued at the cashier to pay! :rotfl:(I just lurve spiders!)

I am not sure this is something I would want to find in bread. The only way it stays fresh for some long is by being full of preservatives.0
