aldi/lidl for most good prices but limited variety
Tesco getting pricy and a !!!!!! on there stock rotation
Asda - good prices, good range
Sainsburys - thinks it is Waitrose with the prices on a lot of things but thier quality does not match
Waistrose - good quality food, can even get seafood on their essentials range, decent offers, can be pricy, but Sainsburys often charge more than they do!
That is my opinion . Only go into Sainsburys when collecting something from Argos, Do a shop online with Ocado as basically a waitrose brand and get ocado brands and rest mostly at aldi's or lidls with odd trip to tesco's for one their own brand items. Asdas once in a blue moon after they managed to drop most of my shopping into the canal!
Coffee is a particularly good thing to look out for at Waitrose. Often find this cheaper than Sainsburys (we only have small Tescos locally).
Our Waitrose has a Sushi bar. :eek:Truth always poses doubts & questions. Only lies are 100% believable, because they don't need to justify reality. - Carlos Ruiz Zafon, The Labyrinth of the Spirits0 -

We have all of them within about a 5 mile radius, apart from Waitrose and M & S, there is a big one in town, but I don't know where the nearest Waitrose is. I go to Tescos and Morrisons, they are both about 2 miles away (in different directions)
I haven't been to Asda for years, but the fruit and veg wasn't very good last time I was there, Morrisons fruit & veg is good, and I like the "salad bar" there. I don't like Aldi or Lidl, I can't be arrrsed being rushed at the checkout, plus they don't have half of the stuff I want, especially cat food. I have very fussy cats0 -

The Asda is somehow dark & gloomy, so I never fancy shopping there.Truth always poses doubts & questions. Only lies are 100% believable, because they don't need to justify reality. - Carlos Ruiz Zafon, The Labyrinth of the Spirits0 -
ASDA seems to specialise in flavourless fruit and veg and multipacks of processed junk (both meat and sugary carb stuff). If you like their 'look' their clothes are alright (but I think they're hideous and largely unsuitable for office work, as see through sleeveless tops do not count as Smart, whatever they claim.
Sainsburys is OK on the fresh stuff. If they stock it - and when you can find it, their basics range is actually pretty good. Their clothes are horrendous. And the household section, whilst oversized, isn't that bad.
I never understand how people love ALDI and LIDL so much. They don't offer basics ranges, the fruit and veg is generally the quality you get in large cornershops and the whole point of being there is to get you to spend on overpriced non food items. OK, supercheap special offer veg can be useful, but it doesn't keep long because they've bought it right at the end of its life to make it so cheap. I suppose their fans are people who would normally buy big brands, so think their prices for copies are good.
Tesco just punts out any old crap. And you buy it rather than have to go back a second time.
Morrisons is OK for fruit and veg, as long as you stick to spuds, onions and salad. But the rest is pretty poor.
I prefer Waitrose for several reasons. Number one is no massive displays of crap on every aisle corner and in the middle of the aisles, blocking your way. Two is that fruit and veg is universally good quality, albeit a little pricey if you want something a bit different. The third is the other ingredients are competitively priced and good quality, especially their basics range, which is far better quality than the other supermarkets'. And four, it's perceived as being expensive, so you're spared swarms of screaming mums hurling mini pizzas into trolleys and wanting to know where the Sunny Delight is. Last is that the reductions are real reductions - none of Tesco's 10p off something that was already overpriced and you probably shouldn't risk on the last day.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
It's still unclear to me who is buying who here. Is Wal-Mart having 'problems' so it's raising money by selling the UK arm - ASDA to Sainsburys, or is it making a friendly takeover bid for Sainsburys??
My guess is that it's the former. Cost savings available within the distribution network - they should be the ones to be nervous - warehouse people and HGV drivers.
While, Morrisons should have a quick word with their Bank Manager, to pick up some stores that will come on the market.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -

This is where the likes of Amazon have ambitious plans, the distribution network.
All the traditional retailers will have to respond in some fashion, in time.0 -

Tesco rule the roost here. Within a 1.5 mile radius we have Lidl, M&S, Sainsbury's, and four Tescos. Nearest Asda is about 6 miles.0
