Old Style Daily Saturday 28th April 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Wet underfoot still from yesterday's continued rain, and it's already raining again, laying water everywhere, forecast for the coming days' is rain too.

DH and myself up enjoying peaceful cuppas, I'm going to work as is DS1 - he's moving about getting ready as we speak, I've taken him a cuppa already. Once he's gone I'll go and get a shower in peace, I'm opening so need to go a bit earlier.

Dinner last night was chicken and bacon kievs, chips/jacket potato, beans/salad for the menfolk, I had mushroom omelette and salad, ice cream for dessert. Tonight will be chicken in black bean sauce, HM egg fried rice and chow mein or something similar.

Yesterday I got the ironing done as I'd hoped once I got back from doing the food shopping, DS2 and myself then went to town to visit the bank, we have an appointment for next week to open a new account for DS2 we could have done it yesterday but he's 18 next Thursday so it seemed pointless to open a child's account this week to then need to change it next week, so we'll just open an adult account for him next Friday, we've already taken his passport and driving licence as ID so that's done.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks HOLLY. Good luck with the document search. We seem to be escaping the heavy rain a lot of you are getting. We are reduced to lightish showers which isn't washing all the sawdust away in the drive!

The end has arrived with the kitchen!!! I spent all yesterday morning transferring all the stuff from the lounge to the cupboards. Then the job stopped when P arrived with the newly ordered doors and more dust ensued just after I had washed everything down!! He also put some edging strips down in the doorways and the odd finishing touches here and there. Hallelujah all done so back to putting away. The little pantry bit now houses all my electrical gadgets and pans in one place so much easier to find what I am looking for. DD's bf is coming to colour the walls and paint the woodwork in a week or two. He is a P & D but has a lot on at the minute. As long as I am straight for a bit I can happily wait!

Getting all new appliances at once isn't a good idea btw! The only two I operated without the need of a big fat manual were the kettle and toaster!! I am now to grips with the hob, the oven/grill remain a mystery. And why does a mw have to be so difficult to fathom out?!! We decided to put the dw on last night and nothing happened, other than some icons lighting up! After much hair pulling we realised the plumber hadn't turned the inlet pipe on at the mains!!

Today the cleaning up starts in earnest. The fridge is still here unplugged beside me so I need a good home for that. DD is asking around at work for someone who needs a 2nd fridge, free to a good home! Meanwhile it can go in the garage.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for those in need/want of them. Take care all xx ps LW the oven is leccy. I don't like gas either. I have to use it at the caravan but no choice on that.

How exciting TA - a brand new shiny sparkling kitchen! I hope you enjoy being in there after all the upheaval.

Yesterday was bright sunshine, today brings rain and dull skies. The usual arrangements are in place, shopping and then driving home. Since I took DM shopping yesterday I may get off with doing this one by myself as the list is all about cleaning materials / fluids. Dull stuff.

The month of May is a busy busy one for me. It's school exams time and I do invigilation at the local high school. The sessions are either an entire morning or afternoon. I forgot about the schedule when I planned DM's medical stuff so the week after next will be manic. The work doesn't pay too well but it's all pennies in the bank.

Now I hope that everyone is doing well or on the mend. Lainey, have a great holiday.

    Happy Saturday to all.

    Morning hello.gif

TravellingAbuela We have a silly microwave too. We only need to defrost and reheat so I wanted one with two dials – turn one for the amount of time, turn the other to choose defrost/cook/reheat – but we ended up with a digital one with settings for pizza, baked potatoes, popcorn, beverages and a couple of other things. Defrost by weight, cook by weight, and one for just cook. You feel like you have to program the damn thing just to reheat your left-it-to-go-lukewarm coffee :D

It rained all day yesterday so I binge-watched Weeds on Netfilx and booked a holiday on the edge of Bodmin Moor. We're not going til the end of september but I'm already trying to decide which crochet project to take with me :D

I missed going for a proper walk, the rest of the day felt wrong because we hadn't been out for more than ten minutes, lol. It's damp and drizzly this morning, hopefully it won't get worse and we'll get our usual amount of exercise.

I have a couple of things to catch up on from yesterday, then I'll sort my spreadsheets and organise myself for next week. Might do the week after too, I'm in an organisational sort of mood today :D

  • TRU I think we have the same mw - the spiel said it was designed to simplify your cooking!! I now know how to cook popcorn (2 choices) pizza (2 choices),assorted meats (six choices), fish (six choices), rice (5 choices), pasta (5 choices) etc etc but still don't know how to heat a dish of frozen peas up! My other one was so simple - a bit like me I think if I am letting a mw beat me!! xx

Morning all and thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey.

It rained all yesterday and today is the same. I cleaned inside windows, will have to re clean the ground floor front window outside - I cleaned it last week and a large bird has done three poos down it.

OH has gone hunter-gathering at M*rrisons, I'm going to read the paper and have some toast and marmite, food of the gods. Later, I have bear-making to do.

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible, have a great holiday Lainey

Another wet one here. I have decided to sell my cottage and make the move locally to be near shops and buses etc. Second viewing of a bungalow this morning with a builder to give me an idea of renovation costs. If it is possible it would give me money in the bank and enable me to do some more travelling. It is a considerable downsizing move and would mean getting rid of a lot of furniture etc - not sure yet! Off to my Closely Knit group after that and then I suppose the inevitable visit to Mr. T. Holly hope you find the paperwork, so annoying
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

It has rained since just after breakfast yesterday, it does look as if it might have stopped, but not holding out much hope.

Nice visit to our friends yesterday, rhubarb was well received, plenty of chat catching up with family news etc. We did not eat too much cake so supper at the usual time.

No real plans for today, since I blew out yesterday at the combi it has worked ok, typical, they are coming on Tuesday to pick it up.......doubt it will be back before we go on holiday.

Spag bol tonight with garlic bread.
  • Morning all,

Rain again :( This time last week we were getting ready for a day out with my parents, which included an ice cream sat by the river in the sun, what a difference a week makes!

Heading out soon to visit various DIY stores for bits and pieces we need, also having a look round a few bathroom places as next big job is to get our en suite done and need some inspiration! No idea what we are doing food wise today, will either pick something up when we are out or dig something out of the freezer.

Well done on cleaning your windows Holly, you are doing better than me! Must try and do a couple at a time I think, the thought of doing them all in one go is putting me off. Hope you manage to find the documents you need too.

How annoying about your dishwasher, TA! Glad you managed to work out what was wrong. Hope you get to grips with the other appliances and start to enjoy your new kitchen

Tru - Bodmin moor, how lovely to have that to look forward to. It has been far too long since I've been down that part of the country, used to go a lot as a child (and further into Cornwall) and loved it. Might do a little research into holidays later......:D

AOD - that happens to us every time we clean the outside of the windows, I'm sure the birds watch and then do it on purpose :p

Right, cup of tea finished, must get myself ready. Have a good day everyone :)

    Morning

Lovely sunny day here today not sure how long it will last though so will have a quick hunt for stuff that doesn't really need washing to satisfy my need to hang outside :D

Back to the weird to do list this weekend where no doubt some obscure cupboard will get cleared out "just in case" today though need to do some normal stuff like scrubbing the kitchen.

Befriending call this morning which I always enjoy she's a really lovely lady who I would love to meet in real life ...thinking of starting the Age UK face to face volunteering after my op.
Obviously I will be round at James' for late breakfast Hol Ill see ya there ;)

Nice meal out last night and was back for 8 so very civilised. Had a tikka mixed grill and nan which was lush as always :) Tonight will be somat from the freezer possibly a chilli :) Got some lovely rhubarb yesterday so need to make some crumbles with it and yes no doubt mum will get some ....least it will give her something to moan at :D

Right waffled enough had a good day all :A
