Portable gas heaters

Hi
On the TV yesterday it said that we might get power cuts this year if we get a severe winter, that the national grid might struggle to provide enough power.
Since we have no gas fire and the central heating won't work without electric its going to be really chilly if we get a power cut. We have gas hobs on the cooker but an electric oven so I'm thinking of getting a mobile gas heater.
Does anyone use one? Are they expensive to run? And someone has said that they give off a lot of condensation, is this a problem?
Our house is big and draughty at the best of times so with no heating its going to be not a lot of fun. Brrrrr.
