Parcels delivered to wrong address

I bought an item from John Lewis online who advised it would be fulfilled by a third party and that delivery etc would likely not be confirmed via the usual avalanche of order update emails. Fine.
I have just now received an email and text from DPD to say parcel has been signed for, but that is strange as I am out. I clicked the tracking on DPD and it has been delivered to somebody else on my street. They have the wrong house number on the delivery.
My account with John Lewis only has the one address on it, and is auto-populated, so I cant have clicked on the wrong house.
I have a complaint in with John Lewis, and will go to my street-neighbour when I am home to see if they still have the parcel, but this is an expensive item and I am worried about having to fight for recourse as DPD will probably count this as a successful delivery to the address they were given.
I assume this lies with John Lewis as they were the people I paid?

The best way to make sure someone takes note is to complain to JL and refuse to collect the parcel - they mis-delivered it so it's their fault.
Are you sure it's not just that they delivered to a neighbour because you were out, and the correct address is actually on the parcel?0 -
Yes, DPD website lists the wrong house number. Its a few hundred meters up the street.
Whats the purpose of not trying to collect the item? Surely if its there I should see if they have it and will give it to me? Easier than trying to get JL to collect it and give it to me?0 -
Surely you gave JL your address, wrong number and all. I can't see how JL are liable for you giving the wrong number, am I missing something here? The don't just guess house numbers .0

I had the same thoughts, but my address is with John Lewis on my online account. Its stored in my profile, and is the default automatic option for delivery so I do not type it in again. I have re-run the purchase and it auto-populates.
I have checked my online JL account and its correct. Its a number of steps to change address when ordering online, and there is no way I would do that if my address is already showing correctly by default. I dont know if JL, the supplier, or DPD made the mistake somewhere.0 -
Well pop & collect the item from your neighbor & jobs a good un.
What recourse will you seek?Dwy galon, un dyhead,
Dwy dafod ond un iaith,
Dwy raff yn cydio’n ddolen,
Dau enaid ond un taith.0 -
Don't you have at least an order confirmation from JL with the delivery address you gave on it? At least that would eliminate the possibility that the error was yours.0

I was thinking along the lines of if they have to put in leg work to fix it, they'll likely investigate it a little more0 -

Order confirmation doesnt have address on it. I didnt spot this as a problem at the time. Under the delivery details section, it just says delivery within 7 days to your address.
It is strange that they didnt confirm delivery address on the order email, but i had no reason to assume it was wrong as I have ordered many times before.0 -

Thanks. Probably very little recourse (not after compensation) if I actually get the parcel.
My worry is I dont know this neighbour, and presumably they have a parcel with their address on it. From their point of view a random item has turned up with their address on it. Its quite a pricy item too. Its not guaranteed that I will get it (they might return it somewhere, who knows where).0 -

Why assume the worst? Most people are decent, will realise a mistake has been made and will be expecting a visit from a neighbour to collect their parcel.
I'd have done that before contacting JL, or posting on here.0
