Changing to all electric.
A quick question, please. I want to change to all electric at home - the only gas we use now is the cooker but I am going to replace it with an electric one. The supplier are saying that I can only close my account by either switching to a new supplier or giving them a change of address. Other than that, I will still have to pay the standing charge even though I won't be using any gas, due to still having a supply to the property.
Has anyone been able to close their account without this or does the supply need to be cut off and how easy is it to arrange that, please?

Normally, you have to have the meter removed and the supply pipe blocked off before a supplier will waive the standing charge. My advice would be to look for a gas supplier that doesn't have a standing charge. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Thanks Hengus. I didn't realise there were suppliers who didn't have a standing charge but yes, that sounds like the easiest route to takeThere is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -
Well of course you can have the meter removed and the supply capped, but don't expect it to be free.
And should you ever change your mind you will only have a year or it will be very expensive.
Any reason you don't want cheap heating?0 -

I use calor gas as a heat source at home, which is much cheaper to use than the heating system that is installed. I have an electric shower and an undersink water heater. The only reason we use the gas is for the cooker but as I also have a halogen and two slow cookers, it isn't used that often, which means I often pay more on the standing charge than I do on gas used each month. There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. Hi
Interested in gas suppliers with no standing charge if you find any please post. I have an empty property (long story), been paying standing charge for last few years and for foreseeable til can get it occupied.
Thanks0 -

Ebico or Solarplicity offer no standing charge tariffs for my postcode. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I use Ebico for my gas and, as a low user, spend in a year less than most (all?) the big suppliers would charge in standing charges!0

I am a little confused - you are using calor as a heat source which is cheaper than the heating system installed. ?
Is the calor in bottles or in a tank; what is the heat source installed ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

The heat source is blow air which is expensive to run so it's cheaper to use bottles. They are better at warming the rooms as wellThere is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -

As Hengus said, Ebico offer no standing charge but I haven't looked into them, yet. There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0
