So, radical solution, how about a Troll button which allows the board guide to make the decision rather then a number of diverse reports.
There are a number of live users with posts which, when reported in isolation, will no doubt be deemed to be acceptable yet when taken in their entirety and in context are far from it.
Experience suggests that reporting has little effect unless done in a pack mentality against regular, value adding users (one of whom has already been mentioned and has subsequently taken their valuable knowledge elsewhere) making your note a little futile
This is the trouble when it's someone with multiple usernames. You need to not only report the post, but to link to the other post(s) which show that it's the same person using AE accounts to troll and bait. And even then nothing gets done about it.0 -
There is one simple answer to anyone you think is a Troll, Don't reply, don't comment. They wind up talking to themselves.
The problem with that approach is that long-time users know in an instant when the see something like a ugg/school uniform or Bluelass/various AE thread but those who are relatively new spend time answering and offering advice. Should we just sit back without calling the troll out and let less experienced users waste their time? I don't think that's a very nice way to treat genuine newer users at all.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Just a reminder that if you think someone is trolling you MUST click the report button on their post and MUST NOT reply on the thread.
Our Forum, and this board in particular, are friendly ones and we rely on you, our regular forum members, to help us keep it that way.
However tempting it may be and however frustrated you may feel you must not respond.
Here's why:- The person you think may or may not be trolling, may or may not be breaking the Forum Rules.
- If YOU reply in an unfriendly way you are definitely breaking the Forum Rules and we would have to give you an infraction.
Please help us help you. Just report the post or posts and, if it's someone whose posts you generally don't like please block them by adding them to your ignore list.
If you're ever unsure about something you're thinking of posting, our Forum Rules are at the bottom of every page on the site so please do check there.
Thank you for all your help.
Now back to saving some money :T
If you want us to report posts, would it not be clever to make sure that the facility is fit for purpose?
That way we won't get this......
I'm afraid we're having technical problems at the moment not allowing us to use links.
Could you reply to this email with the title of the thread you're reporting and the section of the Forum its been posted.
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
MSE Forum Team0 - The person you think may or may not be trolling, may or may not be breaking the Forum Rules.

Don't know why we can't have part of the IP address of users on show. Is there a way of doing that without giving away too much info?
I've reported lots of troll posts but the majority remain. You can usually spot them a mile off as one troll comes along to defend another troll (despite not posting on anything/much else on any other thread/board). It's SO obvious sometimes. And when they start their thread basically saying 'don't you dare report me for being a troll, I'm nota and will report you instead' and all that b'llox. What genuine new poster ever says that.
Not trying to be obstructive, but if the reporting gets ignored, of if 'the powers that be' aren't sure enough to treat them as a troll, how can it hurt for some others to effectively say 'tread with caution, highly probable this person is a troll - feel free to participate, but you're probably wasting your breath'. I VERY rarely see it said on posts where I think the posters are wrong.2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -

The things people get away with on this forum is crazy. I got a 2 week ban once for saying that one of these 'trolls' was a liar when they were giving dangerous advice to another.0

In one thread a troll forgot which login they were using and replied using the wrong username. It was reported and guess what happened.
Nothing.0 -

Hence the hypocrisy of the opening post - it's a lovely sentiment/warning but in reality that's it - no engagement on making things better, no responses to comments raised and certainly no sign of improvements since the post was created.0 -
