I bought a 49U6763DB from Tesco at the start of March for £349 (and used some Clubcard vouchers towards it).

    Pros:
    • The price.
    • It does HD pretty well, but I've never used 4k.
    • It's got a good selection of inputs (which I needed).
    Cons:
    • The picture seemed a bit washed out at first compared to my old plasma screen, but now I've got used to it and it looks fine.
    • It is slow to start up and to change resolution when I flip my Sky from standard to HD.
    • The viewing angle is not the widest (I think that could've been why it appeared washed out to me, as I was sitting off-centre).
    • When you power on after it going to sleep, you get a dialog telling you it went to sleep, which you have to OK to clear.
Overall, I'd say it was a good buy at that price and I'm pretty happy with it.

Thanks for the replies, i'm rethinking Toshiba's now, partly the Vestel thing but also because a bit of further research found some better spec TV's around the budget.
i'd also fancied the Toshiba because of their relatively narrow base which would mean we didn't have to change the Unit if sits on, but it turns out its relatively easy and inexpensive to change the base as well.
Are you definitely set on a 50" (or near enough) TV? With your sort of budget you'll have mode choices looking at something nearer 40" for something decent, although there some LGs and Hisense models in your price range.

Agreed, looking at Richer's LG and Hisense tonight. We are replacing a 32'' so anything is an upgrade, the toshiba's were 49'' but i'm open to 40''.

that's interesting, i asked in John Lewis why it looked a little more brighter (or washed out as you say) compared to the surrounding screens, the assistant thought it just needed it's setting adjusting (though he was quick to mention that he usually was on the camera desk!)

In that case I'd highly recommend either the Samsung MU6400 or MU6120 models. I got the MU6120 for my Dad for Xmas and he's very impressed, although I was fortunate to get it for only £289 from John Lewis using a price match.

I'd go for Samsung or LG at that price point. Buy the Tosh and you'll never get spares or service, since it's just a badge job.
Some of the Hisense products are reasonable, but some are awful.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
