Old Style Daily Tuesday 24th April 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

    Good morning everyone.

    Thanks for the thread HH.

I slept well and am now looking forward to my day. Somehow it got all booked up - work, haircut, volunteer driving and then going to see a a watch repaired. My DM gave me a watch which belonged to her mother which stopped working a few years ago.

Despite the problems with TSB I managed to transfer monies around yesterday. Fingers crossed that the bank gets sorted before Thursday.

I made the peanut butter and banana cake yesterday, now I'm intrigued to taste it. Didn't remember to buy the roasted peanuts to scatter over the top.

Now...I hope that everyone has a relaxing day, perhaps a hope too high for some but I live in hope!

    Happy Tuesday to all.

    Morning All

Another showery day here, getting used to it now and Saturday's sunshine seems like months ago!

I was really tired yesterday so came home from work and flopped on the sofa, had a bath then went to bed early although I did read for a while. Haircut after work today then on to visit a work friend who's not very well, she's moving house soon and I have saved some boxes for her.

Pleased to hear there's progress with the kitchen TA.

Hope you're all well, take care. XX

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Now light, cloudy but dry underfoot, although still wet in the fields and in the gardens. Possible rain forecast again later. I got a big load of washing line dried yesterday so will check the forecast to see if it's worth risking put another out today.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, ice cream for dessert. Tonight we'll be having pork steaks, mash, carrots, broc, cauli in cheese sauce and gravy. I managed to call at L**l on the way home from work to get a few bits, that came to just over £40 - took me ages to find everything as they've had a re-fit since last week.

I got my wish for a busy day yesterday - won't be doing that again, it was truly manic, 2 staff off sick and management not able to give us any help as they have staff off sick in other parts of our team, it did ease off in the later part of the afternoon - we'll see what today brings. Supervisor should be back today - as she was covering another area yesterday so at least that's another person, not sure when my 2 colleagues will be back, hoping at least one of them will be back today.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and HOLLY thanks for the thread. I am so sorry things are not going as you hoped.

I won't dwell on the kitchen you must all be sick of hearing about it! It's getting there slowly. Circulair fan thing in above a shiny black splash back. Hmm hope I can keep it shiny! Fridge in, no door fitted yet. DW in and door fitted. Drawers in but no cupboard fronts yet. A hob but no oven yet. We'll get there! Today the floor is going down he says.

I am escaping today and leaving Mr TA as second in command tea and coffee maker for the troops. Will leave his lunch on a tray just to pop in mw. He says he will manage. I have just got my last hm minced beef pie out to defrost and we will have that tonight with some tinned mushy peas and frozen mash. Talk about fine dining! Maybe soon I will have proper cooking facilities!

I am off to the caravan with DD as we want to make a start transferring the mountain of stuff stored inside the van back into the awning where it will live for the summer. Then sort the electric out, water, tv, gas, etc. She will go back another day to clean it and make it habitable! Still all the bags of bedding etc in the loft but no immediate rush for that!

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them. SO you have my sympathy. I could write a book on the traumas involved looking after a difficult parent. I have mentioned it all before so won't go there again but I had 15 years of hell looking after my DM. Take care all xx

Morning all, I've been up for some hours after a night of broken sleep. I need to get going as have a busy day at work.

Holly, I can see that this must be a huge disappointment but it does sound as if your doctor and you are taking proactive steps.

I must be off, hope everyone has as good a day as possible.

    Morning all.

Not so nice here today and meant to be overcast and a lot cooler over the next few days.

Off to work for me and possibly a quiet day in store, so need to think of jobs to keep 11 clients busy !

Either pizza for dinner or quiche salad and new potatoes, will see what we fancy when we get in.

Need to put a wash on tonight which will have to go on the airer in the conservatory.

TA hopefully the finishing line is in sight xx

    Have good days all xx

Good Morning all a bit cooler today I think but dry and bright at least
HollyH at least you have your GP on your side to help you and he is the most important. Have a restful day and just try to relax and potter. (my favourite thing :))

Well its U3A coffee morning this morning and the two oldest DGS are deep in exams (mocks for one in second year 'A'levels, and mocks for the other in his first year 'A' Levels) so I shall whip up some cakes at lunchtime to cheer them up when they come home from school. Then tonight its quiz night at the pub so no dinner to make for me as I will get fed there .
Tomorrow I shall do the last food shop for this month and hopefully it shouldnt be too expensive as I am still eating from my freezer so its mainly fresh fruit and vegetables with a few odds and ends that I have run out of ,

Hope everyone has a good day I just checked my bank account and I seem to have had a £9 odd payment paid in from the pension folk Haven't a clue what it is but very nice of them :):):) I shall wait for a letter as they normally send me a 6 page message to tell me what its about :):):)

    Have a ood day chums

  • Morning ((((((((((hugs))))))))))) if you need one.

Holly I am pleased that your GP is going to do something about your situation, its not right that your consultant can just say I am not treating her any longer. Please try not to be too down about it.

Its a dull and cold day here this morning, I have put the heat on for a couple of hours.

We have the head chap from the housing at the council coming this afternoon to look at the floor in the wetroom, I have a feeling that the wet goes into the cupboard in the hall, I just hope it has not got as far as the lounge. I am going to empty the cupboard so we can see the floor under the lino. I have no idea where all the stuff is going to go just now. There is a shelf unit in there and also a tall set of plastic drawers. Arrgghhh........

Baked cod, mash and peas for supper tonight.

Morning everyone and thanks for the start Holly.

How lovely to have your grandmothers watch Gers, hopefully it can be repaired.

Bit grey and overcast here in EA and the temperature has certainly dropped down again so jumper and jeans today. My friend from the yard is bringing her mobile dog grooming van to the house this morning to spruce up the little dog ahead of her hols, I do the odd trim but she wriggles around so much that I miss places so will be good to have a professional job done. Not sure what she will think of it :D
Lu also had a makeover yesterday with a tidy up of her mane and tail, I didn’t give her a bath though as the wind was cool but she looked decent by the time I had finished, no doubt that’s all gone overnight.
Not much else planned, have started leaving clean, ironed clothes on the spare bed if only to stop DOH wearing his favourite stuff and then complaining it’s not available for his week away!

Have a good day folks x
