Keeping PAYG Sim Alive

I know pay an go sims normally deactivate after around 6 month of no use. I was just wondering is it possible to keep the sim alive just by receiving a call to the number or does it need to be a dialled call and text sent?

The sim I am specifically asking about is from the 3 network.

It all depends on the network.

    For Three their T&Cs say
If within a 6 month period you have not (i) activated a Pay As You Go
Voucher on your account or (ii) made any chargeable events or activities (for example, made telephone calls, sent text or photo messages, accessed content or the internet or any other Three Services for which a charge is made), we may also suspend our Services or disconnect you

Make a note in your phones diary to make a call or send a text.

Iv got threes data reward sim in a spare phone, what i do is turn wifi off, and with the free 200mb every month, let the phone update apps on the network, using some of the free data. Had sim over a year using it like this, not been disconected,as i have been using data.
  • I have a Three PAYG SIM in a remote alarm unit. I make a test call from it once per month, at 3p a test call the £10 initial top up is going to last 27 years... I would not worry about the cost of regular testing.

I have a 3 payg sim that i have never topped up since i got it about 7yrs ago and its still going i just checked before writing this.
I remember cutting the sim so that i could use it in a sim adapter to unlock a iphone 3g/3gs at the time because the phone was locked to o2.
i also have another payg sim that i have not topped up for a couple of years and that still going but i did change it over to the 321 from a 100mins about 8mths ago but not made a phone call or anything since.
i think 3 don't always cut there sim off after the 6mths of not using them just by me and there is probably loads more people the same as me had there sims a long time and still running really like to know how many are still running after the cut of period.

This is the exact same sim I have got.
The sim currently has no credit on it zero balance and I use it as a spare. If I just use the free 200mb data once every 6 months will this definately keep the sim alive?

Make activation call which you answer to another phone every 3-4 months.
    Keep track of dates.

I did this on few Sims/spare mobiles.
  • Yes it will. Got no credit on my sim. Still working after a year
