I've halved the amount of sugar in muffins and things without any adverse effects - I would think it would be ok

I reduce the amount of sugar in most cake and biscuit recipes tbh, as I would otherwise find them far too sweet - I don't add anything else to compensate.

  • Hi all,

My focus this week is teaching my kid the value of money. I have been showing him how to work out which the cheapest product is by looking at £/kg (something I've always done) He is 8yo. He has now taught his dad the same trick. A small but long term thing for us all. Heating been off all month now. Moved to cash only spending, not on debit card anymore.

    Morning all :)
 Hello to Sunnysam and a_silver_lining :)

Plans for today look like this:
Need to sort my brother out with painkillers for his back (says it hurts too much to go out to buy them himself) plus any food etc that he needs
Post an ebay item, possibly two if other buyer pays up in time :)
    Check banks and update speadsheet
    Check for surveys
    Some housework
    Load of washing
Do some gardening if it doesn't rain - tomatoes need potting on, and the remaining large pots / tubs in the back garden need sorting out
Cut some salad leaves for dinner :)
HM tomato sauce out of freezer for dinner

That will do to start with!

    Hi Frugalistas,
Useful sort of day, though more than ready to sit on my bum with a magazine now, to be honest.
*Waited to see if rainy before putting a load of laundry on - pegged it out, fetched it in, pegged it out, fetched it in, pegged it out......hoping that the final fetch-in will be dry washing!
*Free fitness digging over a flower bed & generally diving around tidying the garden & putting stuff away.
*Potted up another 3 trays of seedlings (all free seeds) and also this year's basil. I've done plenty, as I like to make pesto.
    *Did a few surveys.
*Wrapped 2 ebay parcels & weighed one again, as it's a combined postage atm (unless someone else bids on one of the items).
*Easy cheap meal tonight - home baked cobs from the freezer, filled with the spicy chickpea burgers I batch cooked & froze last week. Going to do a big salad, seeing what I can use up from the fridge. Had to compost a mouldy tomato today & any food waste is almost unheard of here. I only did an investigation of the salad drawer yesterday, so it furred up blimmin' quickly.
*Made tomorrow's packed lunch & work snacks.
*Updated my food/calorie tracker book - now we're back on this game, our food is lasting a lot longer because it's rationed. Hey, but get this.....my jeans had been through the wash & are usually a real trial to get back on the first time of wearing because as we all know, denim contracts in the wash, but today, getting ready for a battle to squeeze just a bit too much Foxgloves into not quite enough jean, they went on & did up just fine. Encouraging, if not actually a result as such.
*Made a start on sorting what is left of the ebay/Ziffit/charity shop mountain by removing a pile of CDs which are too tatty (already 2nd hand when we bought them) & taking them to the shed to hang up as bird scarers.
*Synchronised May's diary with mr f, as there are days I could really do with the car. I shall have my bicycle by then all being well, but I am expecting to be Mrs Wobbly for a while & will not be cycling into town until I know I won't suddenly go flying off it in public with my pants on display!
*Starting to think about next week's meal plans - lots of red lentils, lots of pasta, still some of our fish box left in the freezer.....that can form a starting point.
    OK, must crack on.
Oh.....forgot to chip in to the reduced sugar in baking debate. I've replaced some of the sugar with Stevia & the results have been ok, but have only done for basic things like scones & muffins.
    Cheers all,
    F x

  • Bit spendy today but I don't regret it.

I have a friend who is moving back to the UK from abroad under difficult circumstances. She'll be staying with her mum so I've sent some flowers to her mum's house so they will be there for when she arrives :)

Also ordered some special t-shirts to support a friend in his athletics career
