Should I retract my notice!!
Edged
I’m in a muddle, we were supposed to complete Friday just gone. Then suddenly the solicitor said she got it wrong and the other people’s house wasn’t ready.
But I handed in my 2 week notice (which ends my employment a week Sunday) because we were supposed to be all done.
I now have 7 days and I just don’t see it’s likely to happen as the whole process has been painfully slow.
Now I don’t know if I should retract my notice. Extend my notice or not worry about it.
I’m in another job already as well as the one I have, it actually earns more. But I really don’t want to restart the whole checking process when I can easily work the 2 jobs until our house purchase goes through.
I’m not sure how likely they will be to check employment before release of funds

You can only ask your employer. They don't have to accept your retraction or attempt to extend. Telling your employer that you want to change your notice because your new house isn't ready is not going to endear you to them so don't expect a favourable outcome.0 -
You could politely ask... But retract you cannot!0

Have you exchanged contracts yet?0
-
OP, did you mean to write complete? Or are you confused and you meant exchange ? Do you understand the difference ?0

We were supposed to exchange and complete on the same day. We’ve signed contracts. It’s a really weird situation our solicitor screwed up.0

My work contract states I can retract with 48 hours notice to the last working day. The question here is if I should.0
-
Within my contract I can retract my notice. I was asking here if it would be work while.0

In that case maybe the employment board would be a better place to ask, it's not really related to housing, although I doubt anyone would be able to give you an answer because none of us know what the best and worst case scenarios would be for you.0

You say you were supposed to exchange and complete on the same day.
Did you ACTUALLY exchange and was completion agreed for the same day - you need to ask your solicitor:
1. Did exchange take place?
2. Was completion agreed for the same date as exchange - was this agreed before exchange?
3. If exchange took place, who failed to complete, you or the other party?0 -
I think I'd personally stick with the decision already made and executed.
While it may cause problems (I have NO idea or knowledge of that) ... I think, on paper, it will look a lot "less of a bl00dy mess" than sticking with Plan A and carrying on with your new job.
If I were comparing two applications, one from somebody who changed jobs, then changed back, I'd feel more "nervous" of their position than seeing somebody simply changing jobs for more money and already started that new job.0
