Put a litter tray in your house? (Assuming she!!!8217;s outdoors and doesn!!!8217;t have one)

    Seems a fairly simple fix.

I have reinstated a litter tray, but this is only a temp measure. She is a outdoor cat, with access to a cat flap and back gardens.

    A few things

A cat should always have access to a litter tray, cats feel most vulnerable when toileting.

Use a biological cleaner on any cat urine, otherwise the cat can still smell and see the urine.

If a cat is invading your territory stop her going out, or cat proof your garden. Both of these remove the problem of your cat being intimidated.

Pet remedy is very good at reducing stress, it can take a few weeks to see results. There are also calming spot ons and treats available.

Clean outside areas with a cat urine cleaner, it is likely that the new cat has scent marked the cat flap, cats do this as they can be !!!!!!!s.

Increase the time you play with her, just like with humans, a busy and active mind is generally a happier mind.

Well theres your answer to why she was weeing in the house, she wanted somewhere safe and there wasnt a tray.

Youve also probably found your solution, not a 'temporary measure'

As GwylimT says, cats need somewhere they consider safe to toilet. You should always have a litter tray 'just in case' even if they normally go outdoors.

It is not a 'temporary measure'. This sounds like you simply don't want her to have a litter tray indoors, but thats not fair to your cat.

I strongly disagree, this is not a solution. but a temp fix. she is over ten years old and has always use the back garden. I know of many cat owners like my moggy who never use or have a littler tray, why would you, when there is 24/7 access to the great outdoors. this has only just happoned, so no, this is not an answer at all.

Just because some pet owners can!!!8217;t be bothered to provide for their pets, it doesn!!!8217;t mean you should follow suit.

If you!!!8217;re not willing to provide a toilet why moan when the cat chooses her own toilet?

I dont think it is about "some pet owners cant be bothered" Many cats who have access to outdoors or spend most if not all of their time outdoors, use the outdoors for toileting including my moggy.

Its not about willing, its about trying to fix an issue which has arised. Installing a litter tray is a sticky plaster, it does not solve of the stress problem at all. The moggy does not become relaxed simply by installing a littler tray. As mentioned above, she has survived over ten years using the great outdoors. A cat does not wake up one morning, and decide not to use the outdoors no more.

Also, no one is "moaning" hear, its a viewpoint, sorry that you disagree with that.

On a positive note, as mentioned, the littler tray is in place, however, cat is still stressed - thus problem is still present.

Chances are if there's a new cat terrorising the neighbourhood, she no longer feels comfortable toileting outside which makes sense really.

It's difficult to resolve that kind of problem though and you might just have to wait and see if they settle into some kind of pecking order.

I hear you, that makes much more sense. Yesterday I saw the new cat laying next to my table and chairs with my moggy inside. I threw some water close to the cat to startle, and the cat got up and ran off. The vet asked me to get a cheap water pistol. I know water wont hurt the cat, but i thought if i squart water close to the new cat when she enters the garden, she would associate the bad experience with the water and not come back.

  • Use as many litter trays as you can fit in, Use Urine Off to clear the smell of any accidents and use Feliway plugin or Zylkene to de-stress (or both). That's what has helped me out with mine who was poohing randomly around the house.
What goes around comes around.....I hope!
