Ebay – Cancelling an auction listing

I had something on ebay with bids. However a private firm cash offer came in and I sold outside of ebay (as advertised elsewhere). I pulled the auction listing with about 26 hours left & stated item broken.
I have a disgruntled message from the then leading bidder citing, as I had not stated it was advertised elsewhere he is reporting me to ebay (he maybe saw the cancelled gumtree/preloved advert)?
Has he got a reporting case. The person who bought it there were no ebay messages exchanged, as he saw it elsewhere. Do I have to put in the advert it is advertised elsewhere? I also note that you can’t cancel a listing in 24 hours of auction ending. Whenever possible I deal in cash, I am not going to give ebay fees when I don’t have too.

It is likely that EBay will chase you for the final value fee. They are quite hot on this now and would probably be after you anyway, even without the disgruntled bidders complaint.0

Yes buyer has a valid complaint, eBay terms and conditions appear to preclude you advertising elsewhere . Also, as per sham 63 you will automatically pay the FVFs associated with the highest bid as those rules changed about 2 years ago and now all pulled auctions with a live bid are subject to FVFs. More importantly, dealing off eBay may well get you a seller restriction that leads very swiftly to a suspension when you next break any of eBay's rules.
Many of us already have basic warnings for much less than this, so be prepared to be restricted for a short period.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. This mentions the fees associated with cancelling an auction with valid bid;
https://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/end_early.html
It also mentions the fact that eBay consider this to be fraud (frankly I believe the word fraud to be misused in this situation, but such is eBay)
e Policy.
Cancelling bids and ending a listing early in order to sell the item off-eBay. You should be aware that as well as avoiding fees, you risk fraud by selling items off the eBay website. If a member writes to you to ask you to sell away from the eBay website, please report them to us.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. OK thanks for the information.
In this I do feel this is a change of mind. I have not interacted any messages on ebay for this item. it is not as if I have gone through ebay to capture the buyer. They were completely independent
There wasn't no live bids when I cancelled it. I separately cancelled the bid separately then ended/cancel the auction later on. I can't see how a FVF is to be applied? If it is that is probably fraud isn't it. Yes ok charged for a listing fee I could understand.
I see this as a change of mind myself personally, but I know ebay want to control the whole selling world (ebay and non ebay). So if you can't cancel a listing why do ebay allow you to because what they saying ever you not allowed to ever cancel a item?
Ok noted though I'll be more careful in the future!0 -

If you read the link I posted it explains the eBay logic. You will definitely be charged the FVF as you had a bid in, you won't be able to avoid that, hopefully the item wasn't too expensive!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Well it was a low bid with low watchers, which is why I sold it elsewhere!
I do say these ebay policies are not entirely legal. It's like going into a high street retail shop trying on a pair of shoes and the store saying you have purchased them.
Ebay will have to change the wording of the FVF (for cancelling an auction), as they can't legally charge you for something you never had. It's ironic ebay call it fraud, when they are doing exactly that!0 -

I can understand this person being disgruntled.0 -

So did you state it was advertised elsewhere or not?
As an aside, I have always thought that the majority of sellers state "advertised elsewhere" so that they can pull the item in order to avoid reserve fees if it looks like they're not going to get what they want for the item.0 -

Selling elsewhere is not allowed, any seller that puts that it in their listing who is reportedis likely to be pulled by eBay and given a warning.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I didn't put it in advertised elsewhere, then again ebay are prickly on everything.
Unfortunately, ebay have created this environment. High fees dictating to where you can or can't sell. I won't give them cash when I don't have too. I accept paying an insertion fee though.
I have had this done to me before as a buyer, but I haven't really worried as I don't assume anything until I actually won the item. Where as many people who just purely buy on ebay assume they won it merely placing a bid!0
