4G Router and eliminating Double Lat

Hi

Hope some network experts can help with my issue. Due to poor broadband decoded to go down the 4g router route which works fine but for this Double Nat issue especially with gaming and trying to stream music through amazon alexa.

Ive read the reason is that Three(my 4g provider like most others) sets its own NAT and when it comes to my router it is doing the same, its a TP Link so does not give the option of bridge mode.

Most guides and help Ive read is to do with two routers on your network and not a 4g one.

Im not that clued up with regard to DMZ and port forwarding and from reading port forwarding won't help as ive too many devices so would be a nightmare trying to input them all.

How do I get the router to either ignore the three nat or what settings do i need to inout into the router to allow it again to ignore the NAT.

Can post IP details if it helps someone give me a solution if there is one.

Thanks

John

I'm a bit confused... you have a broadband router, and you have a 4g (Three) router. Both independently give access to the internet, using NAT.

You seem to be describing a problem where both routers are applying NAT serially, but I don't understand that bit... if packets go to the Three router for routing, it will send them onto the internet itself, they wouldn't then go via the broadband router. And vice versa.

Ah, perhaps you are using your old broadband router as just a wifi hub, and it forwards traffic to the internet via Three rather than through broadband ?

I'd have thought guides about using two routers would still apply, since it would be the one that's not directly connected to the internet that you'd be modifying - in this case the TP one. The fact that the one connected to the internet is 4g shouldn't be relevant (?)

What is the exact model of the TP router ? (ETA: And 4g router, while you're at it.)

Me too! Unless you're running an exclusively IPv6 network with no IPv4 addresses, then, if you disable NAT, you'll only be able to connect a single device to the ISP.

What is the "double NAT" problem exactly...?

Ah... Is that the problem...? Are you trying to connect to multiple ISPs simultaneously..?

My router allows multiple WAN connections. If ADSL fails, it can try to use a cable or mobile broadband connection instead. Is something like that what you need?

It may be that the 4G provider is doing their own NAT and giving john1002 a single RFC1918 address as their WAN side address, then his 4G router is doing its own NAT on that to another subnet of RFC1918 addresses.

    So, WAN address is 10.1.1.1
    LAN subnet is 192.168.0.x
    (other RFC1918 addresses are available)

Ah, I think I see now... gaming and, presumably, music streaming require that external devices can establish inbound connections to your network. (Or maybe it's just forwarding udp multicasts ?) Port forwarding works okay through one layer of NAT, but getting it through two layers would be more complicated.

    HI,

    yes ono 99 is correct I only have one router and this a 4G one(TP LINK ARCHER MR200) as normal broadband is too slow so in my case the IP's are this;

    WAN 10.97.125.234

    Primary DNS 172.30.139.16

    Secondary DNS 172.31.139.16

    FROM 3G/4G PROVIDER

router created IP address is 192.168.1.1

    and subnet 255.255.255.0

so would i need to port forward all streaming devices and xbox's and what should they be set at? as when i had a normal router connected to broadband the ports were 3074 but on this router they are 5 digits not 4 so example 54878.

    thanks

Port ranges are 1-65536 on all routers
You should still be able to open port 3074

udp and tcp ports are 16 bits, so 0-65535. Low-numbered ports tend to be allocated for fixed services, whereas outgoing connections tend to pick high-numbered ports at random. http://tcp-udp-ports.com/

3074 looks like it is a reserved xbox port number. http://tcp-udp-ports.com/gaming-ports.php

I don't know where tha 54878 port would be coming from.

thanks so does anyone know what i need to do or who i need to speak to to resolve this double nat issue, is it Three (4G provider) or should I speak to TP Link and see if they can help troubleshoot and get me the right settings to try and get the router to not take into account the three nat situation.

    Thanks

    Hi,

The 4G router does not give the option of a bridge, only 3G/4G or wireless router due to the fact i suppose that it is handling the WAN
