Viewing old slides

Wifey wants to go through old slides, but our old projector is long gone, so we need a viewer, but not daylight type, and with good magnification.
Not many seem to be about, and cheaper ones do not get glowing reports. Dearer can seem overpriced.
In a nutshell, has anyone a recommendation from personal experience of what to buy?

I was perfectly happy with the one I got from Jessops a few years back. They are also long gone, but you may be able to find "New old stock" somewhere on the internut
There's 700+ of the blighters on UK eBay at the moment, so plenty to choose from...
Photolux gets 4.5 stars on Amazon...

No reason, but EBay does not attract me. I like the look of the Photolux.0

No they're not.

Slide scanners are around, mine is a Maplins one and it's reasonable and was £20. Maybe they're cheaper at the moment, if you're quick. Cheap ones are OK if you just have holiday snaps that you want to look at, not so good if you have top-quality images and you want to retain all that quality.
But, what about just getting another projector from somewhere like a car boot sale? I see them at most, usually a pound or two.0 -
This thread's a bit of a shock, I hadn't noticed that they'd become virtually unobtainable. I use an epidiascope, but as it appears to be irreplaceable I'd better look after it.0

Oh, OK. For some reason I thought they'd gone bust0 -
Bought a "Silvercrest" scanner for the exact same reason. Viewing old slides.
There were some I had thought to do more with, (I'm a photographer) and I had photographed them using a DSLR, and good quality macro lens.
The result was that apart from the resolution being higher on the DSLR pics, there was little to choose.
The Silvercrest gives results plenty good enough for viewing your pics.0 -

If you have an all-in-one inkjet printer/copier/fax/scanner there's a reasonable chance that it actually has a slide scanner already without you knowing it.
See if the white panel that sits over the glass plate is removable - there might be a slide scanner attachment underneath.0
