My son has paranoid schizophrenia and for the last 5 months has been living in a homeless hostel with framework awaiting a house from the council. Unfortunately he!!!8217;s not eligible for continuing support from the CMHT as he!!!8217;not engaging and because he!!!8217;s not on a CTO and chooses not to take the medication they feel like they can!!!8217;t do much for him. As a joke he flicked a crow at one of the support workers and the support worker had to fish it out from down his teeshirt, my son was laughing because he thought it was funny, the support worker didn!!!8217;t and he got my son arrested for assault, framework have asked him to leave the property and its likely he8s going to be homeless and using drugs again. My son is pushing to live me with but I can!!!8217;t cope with him, I have health issues myself. How can we push for the health service to accommodate him? He!!!8217;s not on a CPA pathway and they won!!!8217;t do anything for him. Im worried for him. How can we get support.

Sounds like he had support and did not engage with it?0 -
It seems probation can!!!8217;t house him. He!!!8217;s on a SOPO but there aren!!!8217;t any hostels for sex offenders in the area,0

Not unusual for someone with schizophrenia. The MH Trust should have a specialist service that works with individuals that have difficulty sustaining treatment (assertive outreach), but due to cuts these may not be available in all areas. They shouldn't be referring such a complex case to Framework.
Sorry butterfly I don't have any answers, your son is a victim of the cuts. If you're not getting anywhere with MH services yourself, is your/ your son's GP supportive, or your MP?
Edit - posted at the same time. Is your son under forensic services?0 -

I agree, however, you can’t ask for support with one hand whilst refusing the support with another (though I appreciate it’s not him asking)
I don’t know what ‘flicking a crow’ is but if he isn’t engaging, refusing medication and is ‘violent’ there’s only so much help you can give.0 -
Why aren!!!8217;t my posts writing properly on here. I!!!8217;m using a iPad.0

You don't stop giving help, you adapt the service offering to meet the service users needs. Mental health is not a one size fits all, and often those most in need are the most challenging to treat.
I think flicking a crow refers to nose mucus/ snot etc.0 -

The forum doesn't like the Apple operating system. Don't worry about it.0 -
No He wasn’t under forensic services. He committed his offences 18 months ago. He last involved with CMHT in 2014. He had a psychiatric report done my the court and it was deemed he didn’t commit the offence from mental illness and he has a capacity.0

he is waiting for a house from the council?
Will he have to go to a hostel for sex offenders in the meantime, or will you be putting him up?butterfly76 wrote: »It seems probation can!!!8217;t house him. He!!!8217;s on a SOPO but there aren!!!8217;t any hostels for sex offenders in the area,0 -
Health services can't accommodate him unless he has a specific mental health related support need which would mean he needs supported living or similar. They don't have a supply of houses to just hand out to people and they can't make the council offer him a house. And it may be that supported living services would decline to accept him anyway if his behaviour is problematic for others. You can't force them to house him if the options just aren't there. I've known people be discharged from mental health units as street homeless because they wouldn't engage with services and had capacity to make unwise decisions.
He could look for private rental or a room in a shared house. He could go to the council and push for priority. But he does also need to accept some responsibility for his actions as well. Having a mental health diagnosis does not absolve him of that.
Are there any other services for the homeless in the area that he could access? Salvation Army, Cyrenians, any local organisations? What reason does he give for not engaging with services? Any local organisations such as branches of Mind or Rethink who might be able to signpost him elsewhere or challenge any decisions?
I think though, that if he's well enough to make his own choices then you can't make him accept the support. All you can do is look for support for yourself and have the information and services to hand if and when he is ready to try to engage. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0
