I’m not sure how genuine this thread is but I had reason to contact Santander about an issue once. The operator was fantastic and sympathised with my problem. It quickly became clear that it was entirely my fault but they still offered me £15 compensation. I felt rather embarrassed by it all and talked her down to £10.

Not very mse but I saw it as £10 to which I wasn’t entitled. Due to the paltry interest rate I’m closing the account next week but I’ll miss them because of the way that they solved my issue without fuss.

If any bank treats me badly I will complain to them but I wouldn’t get into a tizz over a text message.

That may or may not be the case. I'm sure this website encourages people learn about the Financial Ombudsman and the Information Commissioners Office how to protect your self and how to claim.

I have made no claim to the bank for compensation however from reading advice on this site i can make a Subject Access Request for a legible copy of the telephone conversations with them a couple of days ago. Also from information on this website the £10 cost of the SAR will enable me to also request a legible copy of all of my data which spreads back to 1972

You need to do some more research if you think someone is going to give Indiana Jones a call to retrieve your data for you.... You'll be lucky that the bank even hold data from the beginning of this decade...

I'm not sure what the point of the thread is. Are we just sharing stories? Ok, my turn. I had a chicken salad for lunch.

No organisation, especially banks, should send out unexpected texts or emails asking you to take some action. The reasons are obvious.

If they want you to do something they should text you and ask you to log on to your account and complete the action there
I agree yesterday i went onto the banks website and followed the link to contact the banks fraud department.
The operator told me that texts to my mobile phone should be used by Santander for alerts that i have set up and if they suspect or to protect me from fraud.
Santander have a secure messaging service as well that they can use as well as normal royal mail in which they send the statements.

Santander have a system glitch on their 123 accounts re direct debits which they still have not addressed and could affect interest payments, this has been ongoing for over 4 years and hasn't been addressed and probaby affected mse users.

Exactly what is this glitch? All my direct debits are paid correctly. I am also able to cancel direct debits and set up new ones. I see no evidence of a glitch. Your comments about a Post Office direct debit are not a glitch. You can have more than one direct debit going to the same organisation, but it is Post Office's responsibility to set up that direct debit, not Santander's. The old direct debit can be cancelled by you using online banking (or indeed over the phone or in branch). What you have described is the failure of Post Office to set up a new direct debit mandate. This is not Santander's fault.

Really? What insults did Santander staff use? In what way were you humiliated and embarrassed?

To pester people with text messages for their own benefit when there is a simpler solution gives me the impression it shows lack of customer care.

You weren't pestered, you received one text message! What utter nonsense to suggest that this shows a lack of custmer care. How is sending you a text message not showing customer care? You didn't even have to reply to the text message, but could instead have phoned them or spoken to somebody in branch. Your complaint is ridiculous.

I am simply following a system that they have signed up to and working within their own procedures.

You are engaged in a vexatious complaint.

Given that you clearly have such little trust or confidence in Santander then you should really look at moving your banking elsewhere. Of course, there is a reasonable chance that they will help you with this by giving you notice that they are closing your account because they don't want (and are not required) to put up with your behaviour.
