I'm not totally convinced it was the issue anyway. But at least you can save on the SSD by purchasing the one I suggest for £25.
So your overall spend will be £61 for your drive and their fee, instead of £126 for their drive and it's fitting.
or you can ask them to simply fit your SSD for that £36(which is what they quoted in the first instance) and you can install the OS yourself.
Let's see how they get out of that one.0 -

I fitted a few of those in to the machines of friends with no issues a couple of years later.
Also test if the current installation can be repaired before shelling out.
Thanks for all the advice guys. I have the laptop back with the above hard drive installed.
Can you talk me through what I need to do next.
When I turn on laptop it says:
'Reboot and Select proper Boot Device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key'0 -

You need installation media, but you'll need to borrow another computer in order to create it.

If you really want Windows 8 back again, you can download it here; Win8.1_EnglishInternational_x64.iso
Though again you will need to borrow a machine in order to download and create the installation media.
Once downloaded you can burn the image to DVD or create USB flash media. For instructions I'd need to know something about the machine you can use to create the installation media.
During the Windows 8.1 installation , you would need to enter this key; 334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT
But that is jumping ahead at this stage. First we need to create the installation media for 8.1 and/or 10.0 -

can i ask what that key is for? my laptop is running windows7 and I cannot get it to install windows 10, there is some sort of hardware problem during installation I was wondering if I could go to win8 before win10 it might make a difference?
That key is for machines that were originally supplied with Windows 8(Core version) and were to be upgraded to Windows 8.1 with Updates via a clean install. You need the generic key to be able to install Windows 8.1 with Updates. Then you can activate with your original Windows 8 key.0 -

You'll likely be better off backing up your Windows 7 activation and running a clean install of Windows 10.
What brand name and model number your laptop?0 -
