Hit and run driver-Can police withhold info?

You could get yourself a dash cam, too late for this one but maybe it will pay for itself in the future.

What the other driver did wasn't legal. When it comes to top coppering, sometimes you need to be a bit of vigilante.

Are you related to any coppers or have any copper mates? Usually it helps if you are. Otherwise don't expect the plod to do anything to help you these days.

Top coppering!! I keep explaining this, nobody listens Getting the coppers to do anything beyond chasing kids who are doing 36 in 30 is near enough bloody impossible. Best thing you can do is hope you're not involved in accidents or any kind of serious crime like having your house burgled or getting mugged. You ain't got a jack in hell of chance of them doing anything.

You'll find the police losing interest in things is a common theme. Too much paperwork.

Top coppering!! I keep explaining this, nobody listens Getting the coppers to do anything beyond chasing kids who are doing 36 in 30 is near enough bloody impossible. Best thing you can do is hope you're not involved in accidents or any kind of serious crime like having your house burgled or getting mugged. And you total blinkered bias against the police is so transparent that I can't take any statement from you about the police seriously.

I have cause to be biased against the police. I speak from experience when I have seen them FAIL the public miserably. The chasing the kids doing 36 in a 30 is rhetoric. The burglary and mugging are both true stories. Complete examples of coppers not giving a !!!!.

Quite frankly, most people on this forum won't have a bad word said against the plod..... probably because they've never been done wrong by them. Once that happens, they soon change their tune. It'll happen to you to..... unless you're a Chief Inspector doing his job like a top copper

I don't read the Daily Mail bud. Good effort though.

My best friend was brutally assaulted and mugged on the way home from work by 5 young men. I watched the police handle that from within an hour of the incident happening and the ambulance taking him to hospital for potentially having a bleed on the brain, up until the police decided there wasn't much else to do. I watched them utterly fail him. He still has scars over his face from that incident. He had to take time off work etc. The police completely failed in their duties, right from the get go there. So don't pull the Daily Mail rubbish on me Andy McSarge

Do you want the full story? This thread is about something else. No, he didn't know the offenders. The offenders were a bunch of local squaddies who had gone out on a 12 hour ale session and had been involved in a few altercations that evening (from 3 independent witnesses that I found). He was walking on his own from work, having not consumed alcohol. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time and one of the lads took a shine to his takeaway (yep, that's what happens in the North). My friend said "no" which no doubt you'll say "well there you go, he should have just given it them because why have any kind of accountability". He walked another 50 or so yards before one of them punched and then the rest joined in. They kicked him royal, including kicking him in the head repeatedly.

A number of people saw it happening and came rushing out the two pubs on that road to confront the men. They ran off, but were identified by three people as a small group broken off from a bigger group of squaddies on a night out. I got a phone call, I arrived about 40 minutes after with ambulance tending to him (still no police at this point). Then the plod arrived and the rest is history. Shambolic would be a fair description.

And no doubt all your fine upstanding witnesses were never spoken to by the police, your friend was never given the opportunity to make as statement and no one spoke to the offenders?
