My daughter has. Blackwell dictionary of social policy. Blakemore social policy. Social policy ..Baldock, and social research methods..Bryman all sat here gathering dust ! She doesn't need them this year. I would be more than happy to sell them to you cheaply but I think the postage might be quite high due to the weight !
unless by any remote chance you are near Newbury (Berks) in which case you can collect. And please don't anyone scream at me for "trying to sell things" on this forum.. I'm a parent of students just trying to help out !!!0 -
For my books I usually work through the following:
Amazon.co.uk
Play.com
Abebooks
Ebay
but i also have a good look in charity shops and keep my eye on the notice board at uni as there are often books for sale from last years students.

try www.bookdepository.co.uk, i bought all my social work books from there. They generally work out cheaper than amazon, they are delivered quicker and free delivery. They've been a godsend.0

I have loads of different psychology books that I don't use anymore what sort of thing are you after?0

Why don't you use the library? They spend thousands of pounds buying the newest editions of the most popular books that people use for their courses, might as well make use of it. And if the books are currently out on loan you should be able to recall them, or get them from another library.
It also helps that they're free.0 -
I've nearly finished a social work MA and I can count on one hand the number of books I actually purchased and used regularly. I'd recommend getting a good social work law book, and a good theory book. For everything else, use the library and journals: journals especially will ensure you keep up to date with latest developments.0

I'm in my first year and my uni have 10 copies of each key text, with 83 in my year and the others insubsequent years, they told us not to rely on the library for these resources.0

Obviously libraries can't have a copy for every student, but surely they can restrict the loan on them if they are in high demand?0

hahaha the thought of getting the book you want in our libary is laughable ! it was bad enough when we only had one year now we have three its impossiable!!
I buy most key texts and use journals for the rest but this still set me back a couple of hundred last year!
Amazon are good ebay and play.com
a very good site is www.indibooks.co.uk ran by a social worker sells new and used books.
I have a used book forum on my site where users can sell on or swap and I know the other student social workers site does too

I'm really shocked that people's unis are so blase about not having the books available. At my uni there were reference copies of all key texts, and several of them were available as e-books too.
I can't emphasise enough the importance and value of using journals though. Get to know the various search engines really well, because there's such a massive wealth of information there.0
