Income support and earning £20 week

We have a friend on income support who has just been told he can earn £20 a week, anything else he earns will get deducted from his benefits.


We are a couple who get income support, can we earn up to 20 week profit after expenses without affecting our benefits?

What you can earn without it affecting the Income Support depends on circumstances.
When you work out your earnings, you can exclude the first:

• £5 a week if you’re single with no children
• £10 a week if you’re claiming as a couple
• £20 a week if you’re a single parent, disabled or a carer
