New Blue Badge anti-fraud measures

As ablue badge holder I would not like to show potential car thieves and thos and mugggers what I look like. I am happy for holograms and even date of birth being built in to serial numbers but not obvioulsy so, Why would I want to show the world and his wife my photo? Better still make everyone show their insurance and include it within this by colouring the certificate on the windscreen blue for disabled drivers0

you are totally wrong -the new powers were introduced at the beginning of this year-if you challenged people before this you had
NO power to do this-im not saying you didnt do it-im just saying you had no power to do it!!
You sound very angry and very much in authority and I am not going to argue with you ... to say you are right or wrong.:) All I can tell you is that I was working for Dyfed Powys Police authority and was directed by the police there. I did used to catch people out where they were abusing the orange badge AND I used to issue tickets to those who did abuse the rules and I never had a problem. There may have been a rule that came in this year but I can assure you I was doing this back in 1987 under the police authority there - if you say I had 'no power to do it' then it was the police authority I was working for that was wrong in instructing me to do it .0 -
More and more places are now charging disabled drivers to park, just like anyone else, so the advantages to having a badge might become less attractive over time anyway.
I think this is right.
I understand why disabled drivers may need to park nearer to where they are going, but why should they not pay?!! They should pay just like everyone else...
I live in Birmingham, and if I don't want to pay for parking, I have to get the bus or a taxi. There is no free parking within walking distance of the city centre. My friend who has a dodgy ankle, can park right outside work for free. Surely these parking spaces are worth at LEAST what the non-disabled (and slightly further away) spaces are worth?

I just thought I'd add my thoughts.
I'm a young person and have a disability. I have a blue badge but am totally fed up with old people giving me abuse for parking in disabled bays. I'm sure if I was their granddaughter they would be happy for me to have it.
My biggest grip with supermarket car parks is that the staff park in the disabled spaces if there is no staff parking. I feel they should be fired!
And for those of you who park in disabled bays without a badge or feel a disabled person should pay. I wish there was a way you could feel the pain and experience the restriction a disability has on your life. You may then begin to understand.
I'm glad to see the issue of false badges is being taken more seriously, cars are now being broken into for the badge and not the stereo especially in the congestion zone.0 -
Because they don't always have a choice, example hospital appointment.
A able bodied person assuming its on a few miles away can walk if they wish. A disabled person cant, so the choice is there car, beg a lift, bus or taxi.
Some hospitals like my own do charge, Hull hospital where my daughter goes doesn't and it takes us 70-80 minutes to get thereTripledrop wrote: »I think this is right.

Hi Guys,
I've finally got round to registering on this site after seeing this thread. There are a couple of points made about challenging people in car parks and the abuse that often results.
Can I advocate the use of a site I found the other night whilst 'surfing'.
www.caughtya.org
This is a real 'Name and Shame' site. Take a photo with your mobile and upload it to the site. If you want, you can append the notice provided on the site to the windscreen of the vehicle. The last bit is not compulsory but it might help the site to gain hits. The more folk that know about and use the site, the better!!!0 -
jjoy, totally with you. My daughter is a blue badge holder and it really annoys me the way older people stare and pass comments "under their breath" when I (accompanyed by my daughter) park in a disabled bay - they make the assumption that if you are young you cannot be disabled and I guess also that they assume disability always has wheels. I was also given abuse by another blue badge user once who obviously thought I was mis-using the space, despite displaying a valid badge, if only he had waited the extra five minutes before he spoke he would have realised/seen that by young daughter is disabled. When he did see he started to make all sorts of comments as to why he was justified in having a go at me initially. As I said to him talk to the hand. Thanks, feel better after my mini-rant!0

I am a disabled blue badge holder and I have a problem with the public giving me grief - i "look normal" and dont use my wheelchair unless I am going a distance because usually this is only exercise i get with my husband with me..people stare at me and comment - there is nothing wrong with her or physically walk up to the car to check the badge, they dont know my medical history or know how poorly i really am..... We dont have to be without limbs to have a badge - so please stop treating me like a criminal.0

I think any scheme which enforces 'Disabled Parking Only' spaces is a good idea. :T
I am not disabled and cannot see any problem with letting disabled people have the spaces closest to entrances.
My grandmother is disabled and she needs the extra allocated space at the side to enable her to get out of the car and into her wheelchair. I hate it
when I help my mum take her shopping and the disabled spaces are all taken by people who have nothing wrong with them.
Anyone who complains that not being able to park close to the entrance means that they have further to walk should think of people who are not able to walk that far!
(Sorry for the sharp tone but it's a subject I feel very strongly about - as you can tell)0 -
its all well and good saying there are other spaces available, there may well be when you enter the store but that can change very quickly. People that do this dont appreciate that I cant come and look for you in the shop to move your car as I CANT WALK VERY FAR. thats why I have a badge. Incidentally, I dont mind payng for parking , even our local hospitals charge everybody with no exeptions, I just want a handy parking space. Surely it`s not too much to ask?0
