hi guys, going into partnership with a housing association,<have no choice> after a split as i need to put my money in sumin so it dosnt get eaten up living off it.i have 2 girls age 14 and 10. only aloud to buy up to a max of £180,000, so in essex that dont buy alot round my way let me tell you!, now do i buy a 2bed and at that price i presume would be in a better area so if i ever did resale i would not struggle so much, because selling half a house aint gonna be easy, or buy a 3 bed because its unfair to make my eldest share, which would be a ex council in not sucha lovley area, bearing in mind shel leave home at some point, im really torn about doing right my myself , and right by the kids

Sorry it's just you put "i need to put my money in sumin so it dosnt get eaten up living off it."
Why do you need to live off it... can't you just put it in a high interest savings account??? If it's a large sum the interest will pay most if not all of your rent, if it's not a large sum then it won't really help you buy a house.
I dislike the idea of people "clawing their way" onto the bottom rung of the housing pyramid like this... your better off renting. If you have 2 kids the council should prioritise you high on the list.
The only situation I can see it worth doing this is if the you dont have nor plan to get a job, and are hoping HB will pay the rent on the shared purchase, in which case you need to spend any savings you have [on a house] so they don't get counted in the means testing.
But someone unemployed probably wont be able to (and shouldn't be allowed to) get a shared-ownership property.Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.0 -
you have no idea hunny thats why im asking others, about the better option, not my financial situation thank you,You're not drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on0

Hiya Robwend, and I can confirm that you are not a troll, no way.
As for your dilemma, have you put yourself on all the estate agents' mailing/phoning lists, just on the off-chance that something comes up that suits your situation?
Have you discussed with the girls what they think about sharing? If you got a 2-bed place, perhaps they could divide the biggest bedroom (there's a couple of threads on here about ideas how to do this) and you could manage in the smaller room.
I think it boils down to how your daughters get on with eachother. Make this move into a bit of an adventure for you all, and with a bit of luck they will be quite happy to adapt to whatever turns up.
I'd go for the better area over the extra bedroom, but that really depends on the girls.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

No insult intended, it's just you asked about the options of buying a 2 bed or 3 bed house... and it's only fair for us to tell you that renting might be a better option.
Everyone these days assumes that if they arn't on the housing pyramid then they must be a failure and so makes buying into it their sole goal in life. There are other options.Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.0 -
oh i hate buying and selling lol its so hard to decide!!!!, girls are happy enough to share. i think its a case they know choice is limited. just finding a nice 3 bed at that price around here is hard, where as i could ahve a 2bed in a better location and condition . its all swings and roundabouts i supooseYou're not drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on0

Would it make any difference to which school they got into?!
I'd go with the 2 bed in nice area, so long as the girls are happy to share!!
The phrase "Location, Location, Location..." springs to mind.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
well i would like to keep her in the same school. but the problem is i live in a very small villiage, and prices aint cheap. i can buy a 2 up 2 down 9ft wide cottage for that amount lol but thats me lot lol,You're not drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on0
