Quad band smartphone for travelling.

Hi.

This is connected to something I posted in the travel forum.

Having discovered that my current smartphone will not work in the USA (and not in other places I plan to travel to later on in the year I basically need to buy a new smartphone for travelling.

So in short I need:

4 band (quad band)

Decent battery life - ideally with removable battery.

Unlocked for any (inc 'foreign)' sim use.

Budget 250e MAX.

Any ideas? I've been going crazy researching, I'm all flaked out now.

Are there any travellers out there? What single phone do you use?

Quad band refers to the four main 2G (GSM) frequency bands and is less important now that 3G and 4G are used for smartphones, data transmission.

I would imagine that if you avoid handsets provided by any UK network, but instead buy it unlocked from a shop or supplier, it will have a full range of frequencies fur general use worldwide. This is certainly the case when I buy any phone in East Asia, but I've never bought a smartphone in UK so I'm not certain.

I have never encountered lack of connection in any country because of my handset's frequency bands.

Personally, as I travel frequently I would never buy a phone that takes only one SIM, dual-SIM capability is vital.

My current European dual band smartphone will not work in The USA and many parts of South America (Brazil etc.) no matter the sim, network or whether it's 3 or 4G.

By the way. What phone do you have?

I did narrow down my search to a Motorola 5 . . . . . BUT in the negatives was a smaller and unremovable battery, arggghh. Why? Why?

Is a removable battery a big issue for you?

My last 2 phones have not had that feature and I've simply taken along a mobile phone battery booster which is capable of 2 full recharges of my phone. Even with recent major tours of the USA and Australia I've never actually had to resort to using it as my phone battery has always lasted the day.

This will open up the range of phones that you can choose from.

It's mainly because 'battery failure' is usually one of the first things to happen when your phone starts to go downhill - thus rendering the whole phone pretty useless.
This happened when I had a Samsung S2. Though I bought a new battery and it was almost like having a new phone again . . almost.

I still don't understand why companies often seem to make their upgrade worse than the lower priced model in some way.
I also read the G5 Plus has a worse camera too - and it's around £75 more expensive. :eek: Whyyyyyyyy???????

I think the more expensive G5 models are water/splash resistant so the battery is glued in:mad:
