Hi there was a grinding noise when I have been braking recently. However after I have stopped braking the noise continues for a few seconds (when I'm still moving). any idea what it could be?

09 plate diesel 207. 145k on clock doing 500 miles a week.

Cheers

    Get your brakes checked!

Sounds like worn pads, possibly rusty/scored disks and maybe a sticking caliper.

Get the wheels off and have a look yourself at the wear, then have a brake service.

When was the last time it had a service where the brakes were checked or do you only get them checked at the MOT? My bet is brakes worn down to the metal.

Two miles per week? Rust on the discs and possibly a sticking caliper.

Get them checked tomorrow or it will not just be pads but discs as well.

Try to avoid the big chains, maybe a local garage.

It's likely rusted/pitted discs or worn pads. Find a grubby local garage to get them checked :)
  • My brakes used to squeak when cold e.g when first few times driving off. Then one day there was a loud bang and the squeak doesn't happen any more.

Diesel 207 too but not had them checked yet though. :)

If its coming from the rear, then the shoes may just need a clean. Saying you only drive 2 miles a week this could be a possibility.

Then again it sounds like you may have a stuck calliper. Get them checked, brakes aren't too expensive to get changed if you take them to a garage!

Please get it to a Local garage and get them checked, your life and others is not worth brake failure, Do not Use Kwik fit or the likes you will end up replacing everything. or if you do not have a choice get them to check it but do not spend any cash with them, and then get it checked by a local garage.

Some pads give an audible warning (IE squeal) when worn. Nissan Juke springs to mind.
