I use them in bread, in muffins (lemon and poppy seed), as a topping for shortbread type biccies, on breadsticks, on bagels. If you've had them in the cupboard a while though, check they haven't gone off, they taste very bitter when they're off.

Poppy seed rolls :) Not tried this particular recipe, but you could use any type of sweet rich bread recipe for the roll if you have one that you like.

Lemon & poppy seed shortbread. Yum!

    200g plain flour
    170g butter
    60g sugar
    1tbs poppy seeds
1tbs lemon juice (bottled works fine; if using fresh, adding the zest is nice too)
    Sugar for sprinkling

    - Cream the butter & sugar
    - Stir in poppy seeds & lemon (plus zest if using)
    - Add flour gradually, mixing well
    - Roll out & shape into biscuits or fingers
    - Sprinkle sugar over & !!!!! with fork
    - Bake in a low oven - Gas 3 (170?) for 20-25 mins, until golden (not too brown or will be chewy!) & cool on rack.

They are one of the favourites in our house :)

I love poppy seeds but had to give them up when hubby got his job. he does safety critical work for a railway and therefore has random drug tests. one poppyseed bagel could cost him his job.
