BT contract ending

Options
We accepted a good offer from BT last year - broadband, landline and mobile, BT Sport, etc - and have been satisfied with the service. However, having retired recently, we are trying to cut costs.
As we already have Freeview along with Humax YouView recorders, we think that good broadband and mobile deals will be sufficient for our needs.
We agreed the BT deal on 29 May 2017, although the setup didn’t happen until 13 June 2017.
BT suggested we contact them at the end of April 2018 to negotiate a new deal or cancel.

What we need to know now is when we can actually change suppliers without running over and losing our 12-month discounts. Obviously, we don’t want to be penalised for leaving early either.

We would like to take advantage of good broadband and mobile offers but can’t decide when we can actually do that so advice would be appreciated.

You will probably end up with a slight overlap, but make sure you don't leave BT until your minimum term is up. If you do, they are likely to hit you with a charge for the Hub.

It normally takes about 14 days to change supplier.

Sure it is 30 days notice to stop your contract. Why don't you call them 30 days before contract ends and say you want to leave as new price is too expensive and usually they will give you a lesser price.

Thanks for your replies. We agreed the deal with BT by telephone on 29th May 2017 although the service was set up on 13h June. When would the contract actually end?

I would call them and ask. Look on your emails from them for your order number as they will need that.

Just an update. We have a new 12-month deal with BT for broadband, phone line, mobile (+increased data) and BT Sport.
Price reduction of £10.00 per month. Happy with that.
