While walking past one of their stores today I saw that the blue square is on their door stickers along with the usual Mastercard, Visa etc

That's fantastic news - thanks for letting us know, Mark.

Did you try and use an AmEx card there as well? The only thing that springs to mind right now is "is this a one-off store or across the board?".

Normally, when a new retailer starts to accept AmEx, they (AmEx) tend to make a big show out of it - by advertising it on their web site, offering special offers for AmEx customers, etc. I will try and see if I can find anything on this and post back here later.

Well, I promised to report back. I haven't been to my local store (yet) and there is (strangely) nothing on the AmEx website, but I did find this link on the Boots web site (click on Payment Methods).

    Hope this helps.

I used mine in Boots this week.

The lady behind the till said it was the first one she'd tried and they hadn't been told anything about it through the official channels, but she had heard about it from a colleague. So don't be surprised if some staff still aren't aware of the change.

Hiya, yes hardly surprising I guess. My local store hasn't even got the AmEx sign up on the "openning horus" plague at the store entrance.

I used my AMEX in Boots today! No probs at all. The girl on the cash desk didn't bat an eyelid!
If it was easy, everyone would do it!

They stopped cause the charges that Amex charge merchants as fees are higher than Visa or Mastercard. I guess they reconsidered this now.

Strange. I thought all Boots stores now accepted AmEx. On Saturday (18th June) I tried to use my card in store, but it was surprisingly rejected. This wasn't any special Boots store, chemist or optician, just a normal store. I am going to fill in the form on the AmEx site ('if you've had problems using our card' link) and see what comes about.

What about solo - that really annoys me how the don't accept that. Have they upgraded to accept solo as well yet?
  • AMEX made a point about telling me that Boots now accept their cards on my last bill (about 10 days ago) both instore and online, twice!
