Would it help to have a thread in chat for higher purchase comps? Anyone interested?

I've noticed raffles and gleams are so ridiculous to get entries and much fewer now.

I blame bloggers for a big decline? Companies can just give them the products for free in exchange for a vague review? It means much less comps for us. Sad because we are genuine people who would review and pass onto our family and friend legitimately!

Not a bad idea for those who have little time to comp. We have a dedicated thread during the Advents for higher purchase comps?:o
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea

I think that be very helpful, but it is unlikely to get one on here approved by MSE.

I find I so rarely win anything compared to when I comped 5 years ago and before entering comps became popular. All comps seem to be rubbish like and share on fb/instagram/gleam and the type to wind up your friends
Best wins in 2013 £200 and Mini iPad. 2014 no wins. 2015 2 nights 5* hotel with £300 vouchers plus £1150 Harrods gift card

I've really noticed a difference - I used to spend a lot more time entering.

When I'd been busy it would take me ages to catch up on my comping - now it doesn't take long at all especially as so many of the comps are social media ones now - I don't use any social media so I have less to enter.

I used to enter lots of Goodreads too - I had no idea until I read it on this thread why there were so few books on offer now.

Last year I had at least one win every month until November including a couple of medium to high value prizes - now I feel like I will be lucky to win anything once every 6 months.

I've no doubt that back in the early days brands were genuinely engaging with their customers by offering competitions but these days they know that people don't care about their brand, they just want something for "free"
I sort of agree... The point of the comp (for the promoter) is to advertise the product/brand - either awareness or making you buy one you wouldn't normally choose and hopefully stick with them afterwards. Getting you to like and share or retweet is a cheap form of advertising. Plus they can possibly get better data about who is seeing their advertising, looking at their products and the "only in it to win it" comper distorts that.

Ye olde "Collect 6 tokens and send in an entry form" option is rarer now as well. That used to make people actually buy a product but it costs them time and effort to process the entries. The new form is the pre-printed code on the inside of a packet which is pre-allocated - and there's been a bit of ruckus about that hasn't there?
I need to think of something new here...

I've just started but it doesn't seem too many around and the ones that are available don't have a great reward and require you to do a lot of things! i.e. gleam watch 10 videos and follow 80 people to win a Popsicle!

Not complaining though i still like to enter and hope that one day my luck will occur! lol

"Back in the day" if I missed a day or two it would take me ages to catch up but not so much now. I do feel the Quality has declined though with so many social media Competitions and so many people being so "OMG WOW THIS IS AMAZING WOULD LOVE TO WIN" for a £1 Easter Egg for example the companies know they don't have to put the same amount of money and effort they used too into the competitions.

Seven years ago when I started comping, I used to win probably a prize a week and had some great "big" wins. Now, I'm lucky to win anything in a few months and can't remember when I won anything of significant value. I live in hope though, try not to get too despondent and still enjoy the thrill of entering ...
    Wins since 2009 = £17,600

When I started over 35 years ago Take A Break etc. had prizes of cars . You had to buy the magazine and send away the entry form but prizes were good . I agree the amount of large prizes is falling rapidly .

Goodreads comps have declined because the publisher/writer now have to pay to run them.

I'd wondered why I was seeing less and less Good Reads giveaways. Not that I won many of them, it must be almost two years since my last win with them!

I've also just noticed this in a link on the giveaways page on my account:

'WHY ARE GIVEAWAYS CURRENTLY FOR U.S. RESIDENTS ONLY?

In the coming months, we’ll be moving to our new giveaways program which is currently open to U.S. residents only.

If you are a resident outside the U.S., you’ll be able to enter giveaways currently running in your country and will still get any books you win; however, we won’t be creating new giveaways in your country, which means, over time, you’ll see fewer giveaways running in your country.

What’s next? We’re working hard on expanding our new giveaways program internationally , which we’ll roll out on a country-by-country basis. We’ll share more details when we have them.'
