I've lost interests in doing comps, with a lot of them having shifted to tweeter and facebook.

What do you mean changing? Are the big prizes/numbers shifting elsewhere I don't know about?

I mean with more platforms to enter on. There are lots of effort comps out there, but they take some of tracking down. I find I really need to target local comps more and take the time to get out in the real world to get photos/visit stores/purchase items. (which can't and don't get posted on MSE because of the cost limit)

One example is tomorrow I am doing a facetime interview for a comp, as I am down to the last 10 (ryvita/Davina comp)

Old school comping you needed to collect lots of qualifiers and complete a judged slogan, these days you often need to blog/interact/film/photo for the best prizes.

I used to say that the way to turn things around was for everyone to boycott rubbish prizes. I remember back when a site caused outrage on here for offering a single chocolate bar as a prize. Now it's commonplace because sites know they don't need to do anything more to gain followers and retweets. But some people just literally want to win anything. If you can park your pride far enough away to beg a stranger to pick you to win a bottle of juice, to tell them it would make your year and cure all your woes, well then fine... I'll just spend 30 minutes doing the Bauers and put my laptop away!

Comping culture probably has a lot to do with it. I've no doubt that back in the early days brands were genuinely engaging with their customers by offering competitions but these days they know that people don't care about their brand, they just want something for "free" and a lot of the stuff will just end up on ebay. So, forums like this probably have a lot to do with the decline, allowing random people to enter with no knowledge and generally little interest in the product / brand.
  • Would it help to have a thread in chat for higher purchase comps? Anyone interested?

I've noticed raffles and gleams are so ridiculous to get entries and much fewer now.

I blame bloggers for a big decline? Companies can just give them the products for free in exchange for a vague review? It means much less comps for us. Sad because we are genuine people who would review and pass onto our family and friend legitimately!
