Agapanthus leaves gone slimy!

Mine too, they were looking fine before the heavy frost. The one in a pot is fine - all last year's leaves were brown and shrivelled, but there's plenty of healthy looking new growth. I'm planning a 'kill or cure' haircut, they look awful so I have to do something.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Competition Time, Site Feedback and Marriage, Relationships and Families boards. Mine have as well. I thought it looked normal for the time of year and was just going to cut them off and look for new growth.
Mine are in a pot and had at least 8 lots of snow dumped on them. I quite the idea of the experiment to be honest.0 -
Agapanthus don't like to be too wet.
I grow mine in pots and pop them into the (unheated) greenhouse over winter - and they're all fine.
I don't have any in the ground, as my combination of clay and winter wet would be bound to kill them off - but a large cloche may work for you?0 -
Thank you for your replies. Will watch and wait and see how it goes, not looking too hopeful but you never know. It's been happy in wet Wales soil for a good few years so fingers crossed.0

You may yet have a pleasant surprise.
Today, for the umpteenth time, my nerines were sitting there up to their necks in water. This place has been among the wettest in the country over the past month and temperatures down to -6c were experienced just before that.
Back in 2009/10 we went down to -15c.
The nerines, which are similar in their requirements to agapanthus, have always bounced-back.0 -
Well I can now see what looks like green roots, so not lost completely, will wait and see what happens. I have noticed a couple of others in my area (South Wales) who have gone the same this year. Should I cover the green roots with compost do you think?0

Well I am happy to say I have new green growth so all is not lost. Obviously there wont be flowers this year but at least the plant is still alive.0

My nerines are fine too. The only problem is, I forgot to dig some up and move them to a better location.0

Is it too late to move them Davesnave?0

I split some of my agapanthus 3 months ago. They are happy enough, but I don't think there will be flowers this year, despoite the favourable weather.0
