Tesco car insurance

Options
Hi
I've had the unpleasant experience of Tesco Bank - despite clear instructions not to auto renew my insurance - thieving £440 out of my bank account on the date of insurance expiry.

I emailed them at the time requesting no auto renewal. When they sent a reminder congratulating me on the news that they were going to steal £440 - not only money to which they are not entitled, and for which they are providing no service - but a sum almost double that of the previous years insurance or of any renewal quote - anyway, I immediately emailed back repeating my year-old demand not to auto renew. Some days later they auto renewed, completely ignoring my email. I emailed again, and again, and registered a complaint with a statutory body - the only link or point of contact of any kind on the letter they emailed me as an attachment (I had to email a 'do not reply' address, and then a customer service generic - there was no 'contact us')

Now almost two months later a customer service girl is calling a home number about 'my complaint'.

Has anyone else had a bad experience with Tesco? It seems it's not worth the risk taking insurance with them, no matter how cheap it is.

Have you tried using the Resolver website?

I haven't used Tesco insurance but I have car insurance on auto renew with LV. I know it's not good money saving practice but I like their customer service. They haven't ever put my insurance up by much and sometimes it's gone down.

You say you raised a complaint with a "statutory body"

When you are unhappy with your insurer you should first raise a formal complaint with the insurer

Then if they ignore you for 8 weeks or you are unhappy with the reply you can escalate to the FOS for their ajudication at no cost to you.

Clue's in the email address- "do not reply" emails tend not to be monitored.

If you were so adamant you didn't want to auto-renew you could have picked up the phone to them. Whilst I'm not advocating the practice of auto renewing, emailing a "do not reply" email address isn't really sufficient to stop
    auto renewal.

    I agree about LV=.

I was with Tesco Bank for home insurance and they tried to bump it up by over 40% at renewal so they got told where to go.

Went with LV= for car insurance last January and renewal was in line with the previous year. It was nice to get a renewal quote where the insurer didn't need to wear a mask.

My house is also now with LV= so hopefully that will be the same at renewal.

...and neither is making a phone call that only they might have recorded. An email is a legally recognised way of communication and should be perfectly adequate for any half-decent business to act on.

Tesco do not have an email address. You have to phone or write or register for an insurance account.

We have used Tesco car insurance and had no problem not renewing when we got a lower price elsewhere.

When our car was written off we had excellent service from Tesco Insurance and out newt year's premium was lower , despite the write off payout.

The OP did not mention a "noreply@" email address; that is just a figment of your imagination.
